"This is the '90s. You can't just walk up and slap a guy, you have to say something cool first."After having been sent several nasty death threats, former football star Jimmy Dix (Damon Wayans) decides that it might be time to bring in some help. A job that ends up in the hands of private detective Joe Hallenbeck (Bruce Willis). His first task is to be a simple one, which is to look after Jimmy's girlfriend. However, things turn rather ugly when she is murdered and before they even know what hit her, the two of em' are to find themselves deeply within a world of gambling and violence and where the only way to get at the bottom of things is to seek out the top dog.Classic Bruce Willis early 90s action film, directed by Tony Scott and written by Shane Black. I love this film. Brutal, hilarious and might just be one of the most quotable films of that time. Damn, I miss this Bruce Willis. Even the poster above show more passion than his latest films (or minutes on screen) all combined into one. I was surprised to learn that this actually "bombed" at its release, however it is one that seems to have gotten a cult classic legacy over the years, much thanks to the great script but also the terrific action and chemistry between Damon Wayan and Willis, that and a maybe what I enjoyed the most was seeing Taylor Negron steal the show as the very memorable villain Milo. Anyway, we are talking a real gem here and one I never will go tired of watching, over and over.

Hugely underrated film. It's basically Die Hard 2.5. It even feels like a script for a sequel that never happened so they changed the name.

You nailed it perfectly, stefancrosscoe. Brutal, hilarious, quotable, and Bruce Willis in his prime. And yes, the late Taylor Negron steals the show as the slimy Milo.
Shane Black's sharp script is loaded with wisecracks and all sorts of funny lines. Tony Scott sure knew how make good, bloody shootout scenes. Willis and Wayans really worked well off each other, and some of their exchanges are just classic.
With all these ingredients for a terrific action/comedy, The Last Boy Scout should have been a big hit.

Thought Wayans was weak as Willis sidekick.
But I LOVED Negron as the villain.

Hugely underrated film. It's basically Die Hard 2.5. It even feels like a script for a sequel that never happened so they changed the name. I have often heard or read from fans of it, that they often referred to The Last Boy Scout as the Die Hard sequel that never happened. However, I am just glad we ended up with the both of em'. Shane Black's sharp script is loaded with wisecracks and all sorts of funny lines. Tony Scott sure knew how make good, bloody shootout scenes. Willis and Wayans really worked well off each other, and some of their exchanges are just classic. With all these ingredients for a terrific action/comedy, The Last Boy Scout should have been a big hit.I wonder if it had become a big hit, would we maybe gotten around to see a sequel later on? It is sometimes easy to forget but Bruce had a lot of well, uneven releases at the time and also in the years following this movie. While I truly enjoyed the action/thriller Striking Distance (1993), it was not until 4 years later he would "regain" his mojo with Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995). Maybe if things had worked out better, he might have turned down some of those "lesser ones" and instead done a few more R rated action classics instead.

Oh man, I used to watch this film all the time during my action-heavy youth!
Willis and Wayans are both great and Shane Black gives them plenty of wonderfully profane dialogue to play with. The villains are great too. I agree Taylor Negron was awesome.
I'll say it's up there with Big Lebowski in terms of great quotable movies.

Thought Wayans was weak as Willis sidekick. But I LOVED Negron as the villain. He might not have had his heart fully into it. Apparently he and Bruce Willis didn't get along at all during filming.
