Although she is mostly famous as a comic actress and successful TV hostess, she has exceptional dramatic ability as well. She starred in a TV movie called FRIENDLY FIRE, where she played a bereaved mother determined to find out how her son died in Viet Nam. And there is another TV movie (whose title eludes me at present), where she was held hostage by a female prison escapee, played by her real-life daughter Carrie Hamilton.
Does anyone else here know other dramatic roles played by Ms. Burnett?

snsurone Oddly enough, she once got a [mostly] dramatic role in a [mostly] comedic movie, playing Molly Malloy in Wilder’s ’74 adaptation of The Front Page, a movie I liked more than I thought I would (though, naturally, it doesn’t come close to His Girl Friday). With that said, it’s—er— far from one of Carol’s best parts… D’après Wikipedia, "Burnett said in This Time Together that she was so displeased with her performance that when she was on an airplane where the film was shown, she apologized on the plane’s intercom.”

I agree, Friendly Fire is a really good movie with great dramatic acting from Carol. Another of her movies I love is the comedy-drama The Four Seasons (1981) which I highly recommend. Great ensemble cast, great writing and acting, very entertaining. A hidden treasure.
