He used to make personal appearances in his "Little Oscar" costume (as pictured in teleadm's post) with the Wienermobile at Southern California shopping centers in the '50s. I got a wiener whistle* from him in a Thriftimart parking lot. *If you're a Boomer, you'll know what that is. If not, get your mind out of the gutter!

Preposterous!

He always seemed like a feller you'd like to sit down and chat with. More than merely "The Last Munchkin"
Belated Thanks for the memories, Mr. M.

RIP Jerry. Thank you for your contribution to all of our better memories. Jerry was probably the oldest actor known to more people on Earth than any other. People from age 2 to 102 know him for what he did in 1939. I love this "Drinks on Jerry" story. Drinks on Jerry
Does anyone remember the film UNDER THE RAINBOW? It's a fictional wacky comedy set during the making of TWoO and highlights the extreme misbehavior of the Munchkin actors. Jerry actually appeared in it. I saw it when it came out but it seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. I can't even remember if I liked it or not. UNDER THE RAINBOW

Sounds like Under the Rainbow disappeared for good reasons, jervistetch even the stars hated it ! Fortunately, I missed seeing it. "When Carrie Fisher was a guest on the The Tonight Show (1962), she admitted that this was one of the worst movies she ever starred in." "The picture was a financial disaster at the box-office and Chevy Chase described the film as "one of the worst movies ever made." "Jerry Maren said he regretted making this film, because it was in such poor taste, and nothing remotely like what happened while filming "The Wizard of Oz". " "According to the "Mutant Reviewers" website, "part of the inspiration for 'Under the Rainbow' comes from rumors that the little people did party hard and tear apart the hotel they stayed at during filming of The Wizard of Oz (1939). Those rumors do not seem to be true, but were used as basis of this film."
So it's a bad movie based on an Urban Legend !

Doghouse6 you never did say which of the whistles you got from Mr. Maren. No? As Jed Clampett would say, welllllll doggies! To be perfectly frank, and without becoming embroiled in any furter delay, I relish the opportunity to ketchup to your inquiry of five moths ago, having mustard sufficient recall to do so. Wait, what was the question? Oh, yeah: Exhibit B. Never did learn how to make it produce that little four-note signature heard at the beginning and end of this vintage ad: When it came to wiener whistling, I was strictly Johnny One-Note.
