The writing is awful... Acting is awful.. Cliche after cliche.. No originality.. Bad narrative.. Seems like they are more interested in pleasing the studio and fakebook.

La La Land was the best movie I've seen in years.

There is originality to be found, but you may have to look for it - often outside the multiplex or cable TV, often from abroad. Here is a very short list.
Incendies (Scorched) / Denis Villeneuve Meek’s Cutoff / Kelly Reichardt Rare Exports / Jalmari Helander Margaret / Kenneth Lonergan The Congress / Ari Folman The Clouds Of Sils Maria / Olivier Assayas Phoenix / Christian Petzold (my best picture of the decade, thus far) Predestination / Michael and Peter Spierig Neruda / Pablo Larrain Tower / Keith Maitland

A few films I've enjoyed from the past 8 years that I think are pretty interesting and original.
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives The Turin Horse Only God Forgives Norte, the End of History The Assassin A Bride For Rip Van Winkle A Ghost Story mother!
