they need to slash the budget, make these small scale fests with a nice perturbing mood that the originals held as well.

It's too bad that they are having so much trouble with this. It should be easy to make a shared universe from these characters (since it's been done before). They should focus on gothic horror and small scale.

They should focus on gothic horror and small scale. Agreed. Aim for what Clive Barker initially approached them for the Mummy films before Sommers became involved. He suggested a lowkey darker more violent story.

It's too bad that they are having so much trouble with this. It should be easy to make a shared universe from these characters (since it's been done before). They should focus on gothic horror and small scale. Agreed. Aim for what Clive Barker initially approached them for the Mummy films before Sommers became involved. He suggested a lowkey darker more violent story. I wouldn't expect a Mummy movie to be any other way. It never should have been turned into Mission Impossible: The Mummy. I was so ready for a Werewolf film. I'm Zombied/Vampired out TBH.

I don’t like the shared universe concept ipso facto, but I’d be interested in some more (good) Universal monster flicks. I actually thought Johnston’s Wolfman was rather decent.

Oh, I’m certainly not excusing its flaws, which are numerous [especially an over-reliance on special effects—Johnston, you should know better!], and it’s certainly inferior to its source material. I’m just happy it was as good as it was under the circumstances—compared to something like, say, the Tom Cruise Mummy.
