Any fans? He was not an especially prolific writer, but he certainly had some significance among fans of the genre, and a couple of film adaptations. I may not have especially liked them, but they are certainly of note. He was well respected amongst genre writers it seems. Stephen King and Chuck Palahniuk are on record as admirers.

It's a real shame. I never read his books, but I watched his movies, and they're all dark, hardcore stuff! "The Girl Next Door" was hard to watch. "The Woman" was decent, and "Offspring" was merciless! I'd very much like to see more of his movies.
RIP Jack

R.I.P.
I loved all of the movie adaptations of his books, definitely need to read some of them.

The only book I read seemed to do gore for the sake of gore, with not much substance.

R.I.P. I loved all of the movie adaptations of his books, definitely need to read some of them. I didn't care much for The Woman. I found the premise very intriguing but the outcome a bit shallow and sort of going for shock value for the sake of it. I have not seen The Offspring, but I did like Red when I saw it, and I've sort of confused the two movies based on that same story that was The Girl Next Door, and I don't remember which I liked better for some reason. The one with Katherine Keener and Ellen Page is the one that I think of more, but probably just because they are mainstream stars. His story in XX was probably the best segment. As I understand he has some of his work still in development at one stage or another. I'll have to check out some of the short stories and stuff soon. Clearly he was a significant figure.
