Seriously? Ugh. Not that I mind if she is but I sure hope they back it up with actual feats rather than just magically making her smarter than Stark.

Unless she can make a new element , not even close. The best thing I can say about that point of view is that it is highly unprogressive, dude.

This would be dumb. I cannot stand when movies do this. Tony is a genius and probably one of the most intelligent people on Earth in the MCU.

Dude, don't find yourself getting bogged down by the minor details. It's the wider picture we are concerned with here.

She may be the Tony Stark of wakanda. According to the director she's a engineer who hooks T'challa up with several gadgets and even modified his panther suit.

I wouldn't mind if she's smarter. I mean, if nothing else, she's had the benefit of royal education in a country that's so advanced. That'd almost be like comparing Loki's education to Tony's. Plus, she may have fewer hangups that get in her own way, than Tony does. Or they could mean she's a more well-rounded kind of smart, where she gets tech and science, but she also gets politics, people, and the like so she doesn't annoy people the way Tony does, she can sneak and get stuff done (similar to how Stark tried to hack his way into the info on the hellicarrier about the use of the energy from the Cube, while Steve sneaked down the corridors, wrenched open doors, and snooped through cabinets to get the same info and got it a couple minutes ahead of Tony's hacking)and how T'Challa got extradition for Bucky when Natasha & co. thought he wasn't politically-savvy enough to do such a thing.

I did not say it would, but having some 15 year old be 'smarter' is dumb. Tony has years of education and experience to go along with his already ridiculously high IQ. Now some unknown 15 year old is just going to come in and be better somehow?

You can be smarter than someone and not have their level of knowledge. That's what teachers are for.

Raw intelligence is not the same as ingenuity or creativity. Intellect isn't the sole measure of Tony or Shuri's worth as characters in the MCU. It is the (focused) application of that intelligence that makes them who they are. Even if Shuri is smarter than Tony, it doesn't mean that she could invent or build something as innovative and as sophisticated as the Iron Man. I think the filmmakers were merely trying to find a comparable character to set the bar for Shuri's IQ. Their pronouncement that she is just as smart or smarter than Tony Stark shouldn't be taken as a challenge to Tony's standing as the MCU's most intelligent character. What's more alarming about Tony and Shuri is that both character's intelligence seems to be the product of a genetic fluke and they are never seen putting in the hard work necessary to excel in the STEM fields. That sends a dangerous message to young people by telling them you're somehow either born gifted or not.

The thing that bothers me about this is this:
The MCU has been mostly successful at avoiding the whole "super genius who can do anything" stereotype which was great. When you look at the DC/WB/CW super geniuses like Batman, Felicity Smoke and Cisco, these are people who seem to be intelligent in everything. From computers to biology to engineering to physics to chemistry to detective work... everything.
The MCU has avoided that by making their geniuses good in specific areas only and usually with a reasonable explanation. Tony Stark is a genius with technology but he doesn't know physics and chemistry like Banner does. Plus he's the son of an inventor with some extensive education and experience under his belt. Banner has several PHDs which he worked hard for. In AOS, Fitz and Simmons each have their specialties which they honed through SHIELD training, and even when they make their inventions they usually need a whole team of SHIELD techs to help make them... unlike Cisco who whips out gadgets from thin air. Felicity Smoak is intelligent at everything (even being a CEO) because she's a computer nerd. Can you see what I'm getting at?
The first time MCU bungled this was with Ned in Spiderman HC. Here was a teenage kid who effortlessly hacked through Tony's tech. There was no explanation given, no hint as to why Ned was so smart, no training that we know of, no support... we're just supposed to accept the trope of the "smart guy behind the chair" who can do intelligent stuff... even if that means hacking through the software of the current best inventor of the MCU world. I have a feeling T'Challa's sister is going to fall into the same boat. Smart and capable of doing incredible stuff without any explanation.
I might be wrong, I sure hope I am, but I have a feeling she'll be handled like Ned.

That sends a dangerous message to young people by telling them you're somehow either born gifted or not. That's why I like stuff like Steve's sneaking around the back way and getting the same thing Stark had tried to get his way, or in AVENGERS when Stark is trying to figure out Loki's plan and he's all, "He wants flowers and parades and his name on a", while Steve's standing there like, "Yeah- I came to this same conclusion 20 seconds ago, get with it Stark Jr." because we saw that Steve put in the time, as we see his foot locker in FIRST AVENGER was entirely filled with books. Plus we can sort of guess, in Steve's case, that being a sickly child in the 20s-30s and a sickly young man in 1940s NYC, reading books from a public library would have been a regular pastime. And we see that Natasha and others have worked for their brains, it is just Stark (and maybe Shuri- time will tell) that may have just been genetically blessed. Even Darcy was able to be helpful at times, by luck or by how she would do something others wouldn't be silly or foolish enough for. Although it is very true that most of the Brainy characters of Marvel were genetically blessed with great IQs and talents for building sophisticated gear.
