Maybe they are thinking if they give into him he will resign. Or on the flip side maybe they want to showcase how well he will play the position to any team that may want to deal for him at the deadline.

Your Orioles are in for a long season unless I'm really mistaken as they haven't signed any big name free agents yet and other teams in the AL East except Tampa have improved.
