Yes, and the tall blonde guy who played Kirk's son in TWoK and TSFS had been DEAD for OVER twenty years before I found out.

Like, totally! It had major buzz amongst us 6th graders, we had never heard valley-speak until this show. I couldn't believe it got cancelled! Saw it for sale on DVD once, regretted not buying it ever since. Would love to revisit it now that my 80's nostalgia has hit warp speed.

Yeah I dont remember when I learned about him dying for real but it came as a surprise--definitely well after the fact. I must have watched the show since the theme song is as I remember it and if it only lasted a season it couldnt have been in syndication. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p770xYksds

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p770xYksds Yeah, somehow I missed the news of his passing when it happened. STILL better late than never (EVEN IF it's MORE than 20 years).

Bob Denver's death was a surprise to me--I learned at least 5 years after the fact (sorry little buddy).
I was reading Starlog all through the 80s and into the 90s though so I should have seen Merrit Butrick's-maybe I did and just assumed it was a "remembering Kirk's son" article. Wow he died of AIDS?
I didnt know that! I was going to say that its a good thing his last name didnt replace the "r" with an "l." Now I feel guilty thinking of that joke. I didnt know he was gay.
Wasn't like he did much of note after Star Trek 3 though. I dont remember him in Fright Night 2.
That was one of Shatner's best acting moments BTW-when he falls off the chair "You Klingon bastards you murdered my son."

When did you first learn of Merritt Butrick's death? When I read this thread. Also, the first time I realized that he was the guy who played the punk rocker on "Square Pegs."

Yes, it seems like MOST people didn't learn of his death for WELL OVER twenty years, twenty-five or now approaching thirty years later.
