Not quite what Javi Gracias had in mind for his first game in charge. Watford dumped out of the Cup, fans berating their own players for extended periods of the second half, confrontations between players and fans at the end of the game.
Next up for Watford : Stoke away and Chelsea at home. They are currently in tenth spot but such is the tightness in the bottom half of the table they are just four points off the relegation zone, and like Burnley (eighth, and also on a dreadful run) the only reason they are holding mid-table status is a bright first third of the season where most of their points were collected. They built nice plump cushions for themselves but the cushions have become squashed and in danger of bursting from too much sitting down on them and not enough moving of arses. On today's limp performance the 7/1 odds offered for Watford to be relegated this season seem generous. What if Gracias can't get a grip on things? What if the players don't start performing suddenly better, as a lot of people seem to be taking for granted is what will happen. Also 7/1 for the drop are Bournemouth. But to my eyes there's a massive difference between the two clubs as we speak. Bournemouth keep regular hours, they grind along, and very rarely go more than two games without picking up a point or three whereas Watford have experienced five losses on the trot this season. You can't hold out much hope for a side that loses five on the spin - unless they get a new manager, which brings me back to my earlier point. What if this new fellow isn't the one? And who cares anyway, except Watford fans. Well...
