It's known that sometimes China waits near international release date to approve a film. Thor 3 was like a month or so. Well we are getting awfully close to Black Panther's release date and no approval. According to Jonathan Papish with boxoffice.com and Linan Chen of China Film Insider as of January 23, 2018.... “Black Panther” Gets China Release in March
Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios, American superhero film Black Panther is set to release in China on March 9, 2018. Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as both King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk. Read more on MtimeThis isn't the Hong Kong release date either that's Feb 15th. March 9th is first weekend after the New Years festivals are over. This isn't official or anything, but may just get released in China. What do you think? China Film Insider

China Film InsiderSince China is rather racist(see TLJ's awful $41 million total there), you can assume BP will bomb there also I don't think money is the sole motivation to open in China. Chinese theaters take bigger cut from ticket sales then American Theaters. Don't get me wrong the Studio, Distributors and Production Co. want to make money. it's just harder to turn a profit there. There is still overhead when showing a movie in China, so obviously they want as much ticket sales in China as possible. Opening in China has 3 big pro's and one big con. First Pro, even though it's harder to turn a profit in China. There is money to be made there, and China is the second largest Movie Market. (US number 1) Second, good performance in China can influence other Markets. If it does well in China and other markets open after China the good will can spread. Last pro is this is a very vain industry, looks are everything. Be it physical beauty or how a movie is received. China pads the World Wide Gross, it makes the movie makers look good. It's a matter of Pride. Bonus Pro Sometimes China can save a movie by going above and beyond what is normally expected. WarCraft anyone? The main con is pretty much the opposite of the pros in one big con. The risk of Bombing in China. If it bombs and opens up before other markets at the same time it could be devastating. So you risk every time you open there. Bombing there can sour the word of mouth. Bad press can spread from China and effect other markets. And most notably with poor potential in the market to begin with you are risking tanking a movie there for less profit. So yeah big huge con. If it flops you damage world wide gross, profit, and pride. It's worth the risk obviously to open in China or Studios and Distributors wouldn't go there. I don't know how accurate the racist situation in China is. The execs would though. if they think the risk is worth it, then yeah you take the money and run vs not opening there at all. 40 million is better than nothing as long as it doesn't taint the well for the rest of the world.

That will be wonderful, if BP released in China. A right direction towards tolerance and acceptance. But i highly doubt it.

I never knew about the intolerance of the Chinese people when it comes to race. I only heard about it recently like in the past year or so. As for opening in China I posted the article but it's not exactly from a big reputable source. This source is Linan Chen of China Film Insider not exactly a Ben Bradlee and The Washington Post. So I'm not putting much hope that Black Panther will release there. If it does it's going to get weird. Their quiet racism would come to loggerheads with their love of MCU. It will be fascinating to watch.

The racism towards black people, excist for a long time. And this has a negative effect on movies too. For example, nearly every movie with Will Smith in the lead role wasn't released there.

Not something wildly talked about in Western Civ schools. It's is infuriating that this kinda thing still happens to this day. It's also kind of pathetic and sad on the Chinese side of things. This just a summer blockbuster, but if it is released in China I hope comic book nerds and movie buffs fandom over powers China's bigotry.

Yeah my first introduction to China hatred towards Black People was when they removed John Boyega from the episode 7 poster.

China is their view is still a land where the wild racistraptor roams.
