I'm in the UK...I don't think that was the image used on British posters Oh. What posters do you know for Rocky then?

Well the one that actually sticks in my mind is the British Rocky II poster Rocky wasn't released in the UK until after the Oscars so we got this ugly thing (the poster not Sly)

That artwork on the UK poster for Rocky 1 was used for a DVD. I forgot how different the UK posters can be from US and Canada.

That artwork on the UK poster for Rocky 1 was used for a DVD. I forgot how different the UK posters can be from US and Canada. Back in the day US films were usually released about 6 months after in the UK (different now, we usually get blockbusters about a week before the US) so there are some posters that are different because it spans awards season. But there are plenty that are still known here because they use the same image but transferred to the different shape UK poster, or reprints of US posters were available to buy.

For me it's probably this one for Raiders... That poster became a whole new template for blockbuster vision & whatever... not least it was that film's famous second run print to this original one sheet...

Not one poster has said anything remotely satisfactory. Everybody needs to rally around my opinion and say "Yes! Jaws is the most iconic and identifiable movie poster of all time!" Anyway, I just found this. Movie Posters

I may be going out on a limb here but I'm going to say, "Yes! JAWS is the most iconic and identifiable movie poster of all time"! Here it is:

I had the Jaws poster and it creeped me out and had to remove it. Also I had a felty painting of a great white shark breaching the water (such things were popular in the mid 70s) and that scared me so much I stuck it under my bed but then I would be nervous about looking under my bed even though it was rolled up.

Ha! My favorite person in the world! She was all about the laughs, and, for me, nobody could get em like Miss Pat Ast! I would have followed her to the end of the world. Thanks, TC! It's 6:45 am, and that one got me to smile!

Jaws and E.T. are certainly among the most "borrowed" ones, for purposes of parody or otherwise. E.T. poster designer borrowed from Michelangelo though...
Raiders of the Lost Ark probably has the most imitated font/color combination ever.

Beautiful artwork, though I wonder what Mark Hamill was thinking when he saw it. Imagine starring in the biggest movie ever and getting completely shown up by your sidekick, to where he gets the girl in the sequel and you're barely even on the poster.

Being afraid of a shark poster & putting under your bed as a remedy? I'm not putting any insomnia items under my bed tyvm.

Raiders of the Lost Ark probably has the most imitated font/color combination ever. Yeah, I feel like its template even crossed mediums into book covers & whatnot.

Most iconic IMO:
Jaws A Clockwork Orange
Superman Vertigo

I always assumed the poster for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK was an homage to the GONE WITH THE WIND poster which is certainly one of the most iconic ever.
