In my top 10 list. Is it perfect? I would say no--I think from an FX perspective the film peaks with the Norris-Thing and never matches it. But the suspense of the situation is so creepy, watching it dozens of times doesn't mute my enthusiasm.
After so many years of a super dark VHS and DVD copy I was finally able to make out the Blair-Thing more clearly--watching it in the original VHS all one could see is a weird dog head.
Also, one scene I actually like a lot is a deleted scene. Where ennings I think, encounters someone in a parka shuffling off down a corridor. I think the film could have used a few more moments like that. Carpenter let Bottin do what he wanted--and much of it is great, but I think the FX did hijack the story in some ways.
"Shit doc, I'll take you up, no problem."
"Forget it Palmer."
"Hey thanks for thinking about it, though."

Absolutely a GREAT film. Great story, great performances and INCREDIBLE effects. The film is intense and attention needs to be paid to it when being viewed.

My favorite Carpenter film and one of the best horror films of the 80's. My favorite John Carpenter film too. A great movie.

Yep it's a remake. John Carpenter even confirmed it. Not in anything I've read or seen. From the early stages of discussing the idea of making a film based on the story he said he wanted to adapt the book, not the Hawks film. Russell also said it wasn't a remake. No credit is given to the original makers of the Hawks film And it actually has very little in common with the early film.

My favorite John Carpenter film too. A great movie. Yeah! It was a real man's movie wasn't it brokendogsdick? Perhaps you should go and see Call Me By Your Name. That is a real man's movie too. Males in love with each other and desiring other males. You would find it a real turn on. Yeah! It was a real man's movie wasn't it...? Yes. Maybe that is why you sent a negative reply? A great film.

What about everybody else here ? Why do you always ask this question? It's reeks of attention deficit. Who is everybody else here? They have already commented. 4,995 threads and posts. 5 more and you will be an "Elite Member". That title has nothing to do with intelligence, wit, or merit of any kind. I'd say "congratulations" but there is no reason because you have never accomplished anything on IMDB v2.0.
