Whoa, seriously? It struck me as like garnering a rating in the forties or fifties. That's too bad. I guess Helen really needed the money.

it's probably not bad, or not that bad.
for example i saw that movie Solace the other day, it's not good but it's not the worst thing in the world, but i can't really recommend it; same thing with Winchester probably, it's an "eh" movie, something you might enjoy a bit more on netflix or amazon prime, but nothing to really spend any money on.

idk how the movie was made but it is important why it was made. this story needs to be told.
sara's story was all the ghosts of bodies killed by Winchester rifles visited her and told her to use her money to build this weird assed house and would even help her plan it. they said if they stopped building for any time they would 'get her' so she hired three sets of crews.

Well a little bit of a shame since this is technically a Hammer film or co-production or was and the company is rather feeble in its new releases. Then again the philosophy of the company is so different from the old days...

I haven't seen it yet...
But I know that core of the story belongs in the Biographical/Historical Genre.
For some unknown reason, many critics can't seem to grasp what that means, and then are too harsh on these films, because they weren't "exciting" enough for them...
Then some morons, don't realize these films are based on real events, and then say something stupid like: "That would never happen in real life!"
When this movie comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray, I plan to purchase a copy and see the movie...
But, I'll rate it... based on how close it is to the real story, not on how "Exciting" the overall movie was or wasn't.
Some Historical films can only do so much with the source material... And that may mean, a mostly dull ride.
But then again, this is about "Rotten Tomatoes!"... Which I find, tends to rate many movies lower that just about anyone else on the planet...
I recommend looking elsewhere for reviews, and base this movie on those.

saw it last night. its not awful. its not great either. its a mediocre horror movie that has some good acting in it and an interesting set up (based on a real house and real person) and a decent budget and production. so overall not horrible at all. BUT its not very scary (after they reveal the main "trick" - the trap door and people being able to walk through the closets ) I think it loses a lot of its potential for being frightening. And the ending drags. I would give it 5/10 if I didnt see recent and marvelous horror movies like It Follows or The Witch. But compared to those, this was below average so I have to go with 4 out of 10 in the end. but its not a total waste of money to go see it. Hellen Mirren is good in everything and Jason Clarke was surprisingly likable here (I usually dont like him).
