I don't know and I don't care about box office numbers, all I know is that the cultural impact and imprint of Avengers is laughable vis a vis TDK. The two do not correlate necessarily. Avatar may have had a similar impact as TDK inicially, but it sank into infamy as it was just hot-air style over substance. Nice Kierkegaard quote though. Nails it. I think I'm prolly overstating Avengers' success and you're possibly understating it, but we definitely agree on Avatar. I don't know anybody who's excited about the three or four or eleven or however-many sequels they're making. yes but don't you underestimate the man, Cameron can as only James Cameron can.

On paper, Wonder Woman and Justice League were bigger than any of the MCU movies released in 2017. That's irrelevant, movies will get a surge of interest in the month, maybe two, after release and will then die down. That's what happened here when Justice League released. The MCU has had a constant stream of content coming in, especially in the latter half of the year when Spider-man Homecoming came out, then The Defenders, then Inhumans, then the Black Panther trailer, then Thor Ragnarok, then The Punisher, then the Runaways, then the Infinity War trailer, then Agents of Shield started back up, then the Ant-man and the Wasp trailer and now Black Panther is coming out. After that Jessica Jones comes out in March and Infinity War is the end of April for most the world. It doesn't matter what movies are bigger, theres a lot less to be said. On the old IMDB, the BvS board (and so I am told, the MoS board before that) was the most active board because that is where the trolls were most active.

This was already brought up before. The MCU is a more active series so obviously it would get more discussion. The MCU had three movies last year, there's 3 more movies within the next six months, there's the Netflix TV shows, Agents of Shield, The Runaways, Inhumans and soon Cloak and Dagger. All the DCEU has had was two movies last year and then there's another movie which is at the very end of the year. There's not nearly as much going on that stirs discussion. You do understand that most of the content is hate for the "opposing comic group" and not real discussions about the movies.

I mean. None of this is necessarily true. The Dark Knight board was active for years after the flick came out. not comparable. TDK was Artificially boosted by a major actor dying, which the film exploited, and also TDK came out in a time when CBMs weren't as mainstream as they are now so it was able to gain a foothold before proper competition came out. Plus Nolan inspires deranged fans, but thankfully BvS kicked their feet out from under them.

I feel bad for WB/DC though. They have yet to make another quality film like TDK.

Another TDK will never happen, now that people know they have a valid alternative to DC. They didn't have that back in 2008.

They already had a trilogy of X-Men films, two of which were well received, a trilogy of Spider-Man movies, two of which were really well received, a slew of random movies like Punisher and the two Hulks, and even Iron Man.

The first X-Trilogy ended in 2006 on a less-than-stellar note, the Spidey movies ended in 2007 similarly on a not-so-great note. Nothing in 2008. Put out the Dark Knight now, opposite something like Civil War or Infinity War, and it wouldn't be as well regarded. Especially if no one dies.
