Connor McDavid wins the Art Ross with 100 points as a sophomore. Crosby Rocket with 44. Other awards? My picks - Hart: McDavid Norris: Hedman (not that he will, team didn't make the playoffs) Vezina: Bobrovsky Calder: Matthews Hart: McDavid. I'm sure some other guys will get some votes, but this should be a lopsided win. HM: Crosby, Marchand, Kucherov, Bob, Burns, Karlsson Norris: Burns. Really searching for reasons to not go there for some reason, but his offensive impact was too great in the scope of his team for me not to go with him. Still, not really great defensively or much of a PK factor. Not sure why some who refuse to acknowledge Karlsson in the past are cool with Burns taking the Norris this year. HM: Hedman, Karlsson. Hamilton was pretty darn good this year too sort of under the radar a bit. Vezina: Bob, easy. Anderson was really good, but missed a lot of games due to his wife's illness. HM: Holtby. Price. Calder: I was sort of on Mattews anyway, but he removed all doubt. HM: Laine and 8 million other guys who had great rookie years. Selke: I'm pretty much cool with Bergeron taking this every year until he shows major decline. HM: Barkov if he played more games. Adams: Always the worst award because you can go so many different directions, plus I think "smoke=fire" assumptions with coaching are often wrong. I would actually go McLellan. Sort of a two years in the making award. That team is better mostly because of McDavid obviously, but as someone who's watched a billion Oilers games over the last 5 years or so, it's amazing how much more structured and sound they are now than a few years ago.

I think Tortorella will get a lot of attention for the Adams.

WSH over TOR in 5 PGH over CLB in 7
BOS over OTT in 6 MTL over NYR in 7
CHI over NSH in 5 STL over MIN in 6
CGY over ANA in 7 EDM over SJ in 6
Honestly, aside from Washington and Chicago, I could go either way with the rest.

PP OPP per seasonBigger nets! Smaller equipment! Not saying go back to the 05/06 absurdity, but call some damn penalties.

I think Tortorella will get a lot of attention for the Adams. Babcock got the Leafs into the playoffs with a bunch of rookies. He should get the Adams and it's not really close, other than Cooper in Tampa.

Gerard Gallant to be named first head coach of the Golden Knights. I think it's a good choice. He wasn't to blame for Florida's poor start this season - firing him was madness.

Thoughts on Boudreau in the playoffs? I always lean towards it being more on the players than him, and only one coach can win each year, but... this sucks for him.

I'd need Wolfman's fancy high-percentage shots stats to confirm any bed-cropping, but I don't think Bob has been particularly bad aside from that Fleury-esque booboo behind the net in game 2. I know the save percentage stats say otherwise. Certainly hasn't played like a Vezina winner, but still.

I know the save percentage stats say otherwise. Certainly hasn't played like a Vezina winner, but still. Unfortunately, I'd need some tracking data here, which I'm not entirely sure where to find yet. The site I used to use no longer exists, and trying to find anything on Corsica sucks because their site always freezes. Basic corsi numbers are basically irrelevant, since there's not really a correlation anyone's found between shot quantity and save percentage. I still think there's something there, though. Maybe it's because I've seen Marty, who isn't exactly all-time by sv% measures, beat my team a billion times. Still seems like some middling goaltenders who face a lot rubber have some beefed up sv% numbers that make them seem better than they are, while guys like Marty and Quick have a tough time posting great SV% numbers while facing a low amount of shots. But, smarter people than I have failed to come up with a connection. But, eye test wise....eh, I think Bob's been disappointing. He made some big saves yesterday after about the halfway mark of the game. Looked like he was finding his groove. That sequence where he stopped Crosby was nice. Big saves on Rowney and Hornqvist. But overall? I think he's been a little leaky. A few of Rust and Guentzel's goals weren't "bad", but certainly stoppable. I really didn't like that Guentzel goal in Game 2. Reminded me of Kane's series winner vs. LA a few years ago. He wasn't as out of position as Quick was, and good on Guentzel to get rid of that puck quickly and in a perfect spot. But Sid gave that puck up super early. Surprised he couldn't make that stop. That gaffe in Gm 2 was really bad. Columbus had basically dominated that period to that point, then that happens, and after all that work you're suddenly down 0-1. Werenski didn't really help on that play, either. Seemed like he froze watching Bob muck it up and got caught in no man's land behind the net.

I'm sure you've seen his opposing goaltender's SV% in all those GM 7 losses. Now you have Jake Allen rocking a .977 or whatever against him. Is that just bad luck? Is there something he's not doing to adjust? I don't know. I mean, how much better can they have played in Game 1? I'm sure he'll take some seat, but Allen has been awesome. What are you going to do?

I seriously had no idea Ron Hainsey was still playing hockey before he scored yesterday.

That linesman Wideman crosschecked a while back is suing for 10.25M! Good for him. I don't remember what Wideman's punishment was, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a lifetime ban from the NHL, so it wasn't enough.

Calder finalists - Matthews, Laine, Werenski. As expected. Matthews will win.
Bylsma and Murray fired from Buffalo. Had a feeling about Bylsma but wasn't sure if they'd get rid of Murray just yet. Lindy Ruff back to Buffalo? Sutter?
