I have the feeling, that Skyscraper will be just another little kiddie action movie.

I have the feeling, that Skyscraper will be just another little kiddie action movie. Must be why they're not advertising it as "From the director of Dodgeball, We're the Millers, and Central Intelligence". But then again the Russo brothers made some of the best MCU installments after also directing You, Me, and Dupree.

Make The Rock our next big-gun action hero! Haven't they been trying to do that since 2003? This looks...OK. Not Steven Seagal-DTV bad, but nothing truly memorable. I like Dwayne Johnson; he seems like a likable dude with lots of charisma and puts 100% effort into each project he does. That said, I wish he could find some talented writers and directors to put him a truly satisfying movie. I enjoyed The Rundown, Faster, Fast Five, Furious 7 and his performance in Pain & Gain (the film was just OK), but feel like he can still do better.* Think how Arnold Schwarzenegger got to work with John Milius, James Cameron, John McTiernan and Paul Verhoeven then they took Arnold's strengths and made some great genre movies. Johnson's got the talent just not the filmmaking originality to back it up. I also feel like he should try what Dave Bautista's doing: taking supporting parts in ensemble casts outside from the F&F franchise, like Guardians, Spectre, Blade Runner 2049. Maybe they won't have Johnson in the lead, but it could challenge his abilities in different ways. *I haven't seen the recent Jumanji, yet heard it (and Johnson) was good. I'll check that out.

I liked it, sheer ridiculousness but slightly grounded to start. Kind of cool that Dwayne is nerfed somewhat in this one.
Don't know if I'd pay to see (went to a screening Tue), but I think this may be Dwayne's most entertaining starring vehicle since Faster...maybe ever? He's great Viagra in ensemble and tag team movies, but has generally sucked in sole Rock movies. Couldn't really tell you the baddies' plan but they were passable baddies. A good, dumb summer blockbuster.
And this movie's extremely memeable imo. That one scene when Dwayne says "I don't think I can hold it any longer!" (he's holding a collapsing bridge) while the camera focuses on his face in agony had me rolling.

Jumanji surprised. It's actually pretty good. I agree on all points about Johnson. His charisma carries every film he's in. I could totally see him in a superhero franchise.

That should be Justice League 2, the Legion of Doom using Black Adam as their own superman.
