What I can read of the plot doesn't sound like it is.

I have not seen it since last year or so but I remember that I wrote down a little mini-review of the film: "Yes, I will eventually kill you, but I assure you you'll be in perfect health when you die."There's not much to say about comic book artist Josh Baker's (Eric Roberts) self-confidence as he stumble upon the woman of his dreams Cheryl (Janine Turner), but just as he tries his best to close in on getting a date, she suddenly collapses right in front of him, and before he even knew what is going on, an old ambulance rushes off with her. Unfortunately, it is not the kind of ambulance you want to take a ride in, and as Josh are about to learn that he ain't the only one who have been keeping an good eye off Cheryl. One of Larry Cohen's more overlooked b-movie thrillers, and one that is both a lot of fun and comes with some nice thrills and surprises along the way. It also packs an impressive cast with Eric Roberts doing a great job as the leading man and with James Earl Jones putting in some great lines, you also have Megan Gallagher, Janine Turner, Red Buttons plus a small but nice cameo of legend Stan Lee in there along the way. Maybe not one of his best films, but still a entertaining little gem that I loved seeing on VHS late at night, and I was very glad to see it has finally found its way onto DVD. I see that I have rated it a 6/10 which in my book is a good movie, not very good or great but good as in enjoyable and sometimes fun. It is not a straight up horror film, and as I remember it more of a thriller/adventure with some comedic scenes thrown in to speed up things. But for those who like 80s and early 90s b-movies shot in N.Y. this is worth a while, as long as one not go in with to big of a expectations. All in all, it is one of those Larry Cohen productions which could have been so much better, and I guess also a lot worse, but still I liked it and if not for the annoying USA & Canada Code A bullshit, I would have bought the upcoming Blu-ray right away, but as of now, I am ok with having it both on VHS and DVD. By the way, gotta love the sleazy erotic thriller meets up with late night horror theme which is used in this film:

I only saw it once, and that was when it was first released on VHS. I honestly don't remember it that well because it's been so long, and a couple of times I've tried to track it down since then but without success. But now that Shout! Factory is releasing it I'll be able to see it again and give it another evaluation. Apparently, Cohen uses this movie as social commentary on the American health care system, which escaped me at the time.

Apparently, Cohen uses this movie as social commentary on the American health care system, which escaped me at the time. Interesting, as I guess then his The Stuff (1985) was more about a parody of the rapidly unhealthy american food consumery, that or just another b-movie about some man eating diet yoghurts from outer space. I like the idea of having an ambulance showing up, picking up people then that unlucky patient are never to be seen again, but I guess the original dark idea became something very different as the film does include a more light hearted/comedic tone but still lots of fun and one I am glad getting maybe a little more attention, as it seems like one of Cohen's lesser know titles, or at least one that is not often talked about.
