vegalyra I wonder what was the first TV episode to destroy a car. I once saw an unsold pilot from the 1950s which wrecked a car (the name of the pilot escapes me), but as it wasn't broadcast it doesn't count. Just curious what was the first TV episode to destroy a car was though. In terms of films, I've seen examples going back to at least the 1910s (a car goes over a cliff in Charlie Chaplin's first film, "Making a Living", which is from 1914, and a car gets crushed by a tank in a 1918 newsreel....I can post a link to the latter if anyone wants).

I'm not really sure. I know most television shows from the '50s and '60s were mostly done on sets so I doubt there would be much destruction on there. Most shows in the 1970's that involved cars destroyed plenty of them though. Starsky and Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard, Chips, etc. Lots of car carnage that's for sure. I imagine an early police show from the 1960's might have been one of the first but I couldn't name one off hand.

One somewhat early example is a 1968 episode of "George and the Dragon", a popular though short lived British sitcom. In the episode, a hair-brained scheme ends up in a car getting crushed at a junkyard. (the car was one which was worth very little in 1968, and presumably the show could easily afford to destroy it).
