I would like if it was done more. But not for bad movies. I wish there were more great movies.

I saw Godfather III at the movies. The audience got up and cheered when Sofia Coppola's character was shot. It was entertaining, but I really didn't understand it. She wasn't that bad.
I will clap at the end of movies that I really like when at home.

No its ridiculous! This isnt a live perfomance and remember that whenever you clap at the movies, you're basically showing off your appreciation to other audience and not the cast

Do any of you cheer while watching sports on TV? I never clap at the end of a film. I cheer and yell and all sort of things at the TV at times, though. The reason I do the latter is because I'm that emotional about it--it's basically an emotional outburst. I don't just do that in response to sports, by the way, but also things like the news--I get very annoyed at conventional mores and the like, and especially I have emotional outbursts while (video) gaming at times. I'm surprised I haven't shot the TV, or at least shattered it with a controller, yet. I never have emotional outbursts of clapping. Not even at a live performance. I'll clap during live performances, but not because I have an impulse to clap. I clap just because it's the convention and it lets the performers know that we're enjoying the performance. Clapping has never felt natural to me. It seems like a very odd convention to me rather.

No, I don't. I don't think I've ever been in a theater where anyone ever applauded at the end.

I've only really seen it at festivals/premieres - Robocop, Hellraiser and The Invincibles spring to mind, and once when I saw Pulp Fiction in New York.

Normal cinemas and at home? No, never. Film festivals? Sometimes. I don't see the point unless some of the people who made the movie are present.

I remember at the early release night for Star Wars I The Phantom Menace (midnight showing I believe), there was applause at the beginning when the film started. Things rapidly unraveled and there were looks of disgust and confusion when people were leaving the theater when it ended. I also remember applause for The Dark Knight at the end of the film. The audience I saw “Phantom Menace” with all enjoyed it and clapped. I was surprised no one applauded after “The Dark Knight”. I remember being the only one clapping when the Batmobile became the Batpod.

The last time that I applauded at the end of a Movie was "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES".
I did it because it was the end of Christopher Nolan's Absolutely AWESOME Batman Trilogy which I really enjoyed all of. I guess it was just my way of saying "Well Done".

I honestly would have clapped at the end of Dunkirk. The way Tom Hardy puts that Spitfire down and torches it was well done. The whole film was amazing. I really hope it takes home some awards this year. The tone of the film was very sombre though so it would have been that out of place slow clap...

I can't recall ever doing that, but I guess I don't rule it out.

rarely, if ever.
I think I only clapped at three of them because they were large audiences or i was with the kids who clapped and the enjoyment was palpable among the whole group
