“Unfortunately, Moira is not showing up,” Byrne said. “I wish she was. I had such fun on X-Men: Apocalypse. I love that cast. It is a really fun, what do you call it? Superhero film… ensemble exactly. I can’t wait to see what [Jessica Chastain] does, cause I’m such a fan.”

Dark Phoneix already has about 15 characters, it doesn't need a disposable one like Moira taking up screen time.

This is ironic if you've ever read X-Men comics. Moira can't catch a break in any medium.

Thank God she isn't coming back. How the hell do the FOX-Men defend changing Moira from being a Scottish Scientist in the comics to being a lame CIA agent in this mediocre FOX-Men tripe???

Minor characters dont need to be 100% comic accurate. She served the role of a CIA agent used to bridge the gap between them and Charles Mutant crew.

They should've used the actual FBI agent from the old X-Men comics then.

I'm really fine with her not being in this movie. Don't like when they make side characters and villains bigger than they should be and coming back for every movie. She was there for exposition in Apocalypse and didn't need to stay on after Charles's visit to her office.

They needed Charles to give back her memory to complete his arc from Days of Future Past. But did they really? Yes they did this isnt the MCU or DCEU where romantic interests get forgotten and dumped unceremoniously like Jane, Peggy, Pepper or Lois Lane.

Also, were any of them dumped unceremoniously? I mean they mention them in movies they aren't in and the lead look sad when they are mentioned. But was she a romantic interest? She really didn't see him like that during the movie. Then he Superman kisses her... Did he really need to kiss her to erase her memory? Also, this is a series of movies. Also, there was no point of her being in the movie and mentioning her son and the villain isn't Proteus... Just use Val Cooper...

As the previous poster said it was completing both character arcs by the end of Apocalypse. The intention I guess was to show how much Xavier has to sacrifice in becoming the leader of the Xmen by end of First Class, which is why he wipes her mind. Similar to other Superheros who struggle to keep secret identities and love interests at the same time, Batman, Spiderman, superman etc. In DOFP , hes lost everything including Moira even though shes not in the film, her setup plays a part in Xaviers state. And finally in Apocalypse he restores Moiras memories from the lessons he learned in DOFP with Mistique by not trying to be a control freak and manipulating individuals with his abilities. So yes, Moira was important in Apocalypse for allowing Xaviers arc to come full circle.

So yes, Moira was important in Apocalypse for allowing Xaviers arc to come full circle. But he never wanted to start the X-men. He wipes her mind because she knows too much. And works for the government. And she knows too much. She has nothing to do with how he ends up in DoFP. That was all Mystique. And Magneto. But he's still being a control freak by still messing with her mind. By restoring her mind her life at the moment is a lie. He sent her in a direction she most likely wouldn't have gone. Yes, his arc did come full circle. He's still the same man he was in First Class.

But he never wanted to start the X-men. He wipes her mind because she knows too much. And works for the government. And she knows too much. He wanted to form a team based around his Westchester mansion at the end of First Class. He wipes her mind for those reasons yes, still a sacrifice because he thinks he can never be with a human at that period of time when mutant-human relations are fragile. Doing it for her own good. And Moira. And Havoc. And Banshee. Its a collective loss. All he has left is Beast. He restored her memories and quoted saying "I should have never taken those away from you". I.e he realises he has no right in manipulating others memories and thoughts without their permission for his own agenda; a lesson he learned from DOFP with letting Mistique choose to kill trask or not. So he is a different person from First Class.
