Love Cameron, but Scorsese is in another stratosphere. Though it really is an odd choice to compare the two

I like Cameron films more, but Scorsese is the better director.

Unfair comparison because they work in different genres.
Scorsese is more of an actor's director (although Cameron has good casting) but Cameron is technically gifted--understands special effects very well. I think a better matchup would be Cameron and Zemeckis--in that case Zemeckis is superior-better with actors and he also knows FX (however Cameron pushes the envelope more--Jurassic Park happened because James Cameron developed the CGI department in ILM for the Abyss and Terminator 2).
Cameron is kind of like Cecil b Demille--big on spectacle but a very hokey director.

Martin Scorsese as far as storytelling. Cameron in as far as sheer scale of film production. Like Martin Scorsese is William Wyler while James Cameron is Cecil B. DeMille.

It's an unfair comparison as others have said, but Martin Scorsese wins this round.

Oh, God, I’d rather watch DeMille any day than have to flog myself to watch another bloated Cameron “spectacle.” Not much a fan of his, unfortunately. I still think Avatar atrocious and Titanic not much better.

I still think Avatar atrocious and Titanic not much better. Well in fact the only film of his I rewatch a fair bit is the Terminator. I dont really care for his other films beyond the FX achievements. But with DeMille I find his films too hokey-especially his women. He was the worst at women characters-made them behave like children. Its kind of embarrassing. On the other hand, I thought he did a great job as an actor in Sunset Boulevard. There's an anecdote I heard about him and Charles Laughton. They were filming a movie on the Bible and DeMille was giving a big speech about how standing by a river made him feel as if he was close to God and Laughton replied: "how cozy."

Would’ve made more sense comparing Guillermo Del Toro with Cameron.

Scorsese ; by far!
Scorsese has six movies I score a 7/10 or higher where as James Cameron only has one (The Terminator). but Cameron's movie(The Terminator) tops all of Scorsese's for me. but overall Scorsese easily wins this battle.

If the answer wasn't obvious enough, Scorsese even beats Cameron at his own game. The 3D in Hugo was way better than Avatar's.
