I just saw it. The acting is very, very bad (especially the child actors who make the non-actors look like Oscar winners), but 14% is a little harsh. It's mostly solid otherwise. Definitely suspect having a brown bad guy and being directed by a liberal target is drawing more ire than it deserves.

I am really wondering about this one. I really like Clint Eastwood as a director and struggle to imagine he would make something as bad to warrant 14% on RT. I was thinking it could be the acting of the non-actorsโฆ will see tomorrow.

14% remember is the ratio of bad to good reviews, it's actual score is 4/10 which if the film has a lot of bad acting in it makes sense, bad acting can ruin otherwise fine films, just like how especially charismatic & good acting can elevate otherwise mediocre scripts, just another example of people not understanding what the tomato meter actually represents.

Joking aside, hardly since they praised the hell out of American Sniper.

Take away Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, and (yes) American Sniper, are there any great Clint Eastwood-directed movies in the last 25 years (give or take)? And when I say "great", I mean those that had the nerve to get Academy Awards love.

Casting non actors is indeed a big gamble, but sometimes they can knock it out of the park like in KRISHA.

And when I say "great", I mean those that had the nerve to get Academy Awards love. The two Iwo Jima pics were highly acclaimed. "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" was a huge hit. Some say "Bridges Of Madison County" is a solid film. "White Hunter, Black Heart" preceded "Unforgiven" by a year+, and I like that one. Nobody except me liked "The Changeling", so I'll leave that one out of it. So 9 acclaimed films since 1990. One every three years. I'd say his second career as a writer/director/producer has worked out pretty well. One of the most amazing "Chapter II's" in Hollywood history, and? I'm not a conservative.

Joking aside, hardly since they praised the hell out of American Sniper. To an extent. It's got a 72% on RT with an average rating of 6.9, which is low for a Best Picture nominee. A lot of them criticised it for being a "jingoistic pro-War movie", despite the fact that it's about a soldier with PTSD and Clint calling it anti-War.
