I suspect it's partially because...
A)It's a super hero movie (these usually get positive reviews, correct?)
B)Has black actors in leading role (because you don't really see black actors in super hero movies, especially not as a lead)
off the top of my head... I don't think there is a good super hero movie with a black lead. so maybe this is the first one and that will make them overpraise it basically. sorta like what happened with Wonder Woman being the first good female lead super hero movie (for the record... Wonder Woman is one of the better super hero movies in general).
but anyways, based on my impressions of it from the commercials... I am not expecting much from it to be honest. but it might be okay enough to see one time once it's out on video. for the record... not many super hero movies are worth re-watching from time-to-time as the years pass.
either way, I suspect it will do decent $$$ in the theaters because super hero movies generally do pretty well most of the time.

I hope it does well but I honestly could care less about ANY super hero film anymore. This is like the western genre in the 1950's. Geez.

Hopefully it lives up to the hype. I'm relatively confident that it will because Coogler is an excellent director. Its being overpraised because no American critic will fault it for fear of being called racist--Irish Times critic is the only negative critic so far, and even he admitted the South Korea scene was really impressive--Otherwise he stated, "its a stodgy affair complicated by BP's internal family and past, struggles" adding that he basically wanted more 'kick-ass' action in the film |
