Not a huge fan. I love Carpenters Thing but the prequel replaces a lot of that appeal with bad special effects. The mystique and paranoia are gone.

Pretty sure you already made this thread before.
It’s not bad, but it would’ve been much better if they hadn’t replaced the amazing practical effects with crappy CG effects.

Again, I hated it. Until the end credits with the dog, it feels more like a generic remake of the 82 film than a prequel, complete with bad CGI, a Ripley wannabe final girl, and a happy ending with no ambiguity whatsoever. Hate.

Yeah waaay too much of a remake-they even had poor man Macready and Childs copies with the American pilots.
The CGI ruined it because other than one shot of the two face thing stalking around a hall in search of victims (which was rather nightmarish)it was too cartoony. On the helicopter, the thing changes instantly-not even a warm up breathing effect.

While I readily concede the prequel lacked the visceral tension, paranoia, and sheer horror of the original-- which I saw in the theatre during its original release-- I quite appreciate the 2011 movie which wisely does not try to ape the tone of the original; but rather rambles amiably on its own course. Also I prefer the acting in the later movie; I seem to be alone in thinking the acting in the original was atrociously amateurish and Kurt Russell's character particularly unsympathetic. I especially like the way the prequel segues into the original at the end while allowing the heroine to (apparently) survive, making for another ambiguous ending. Perhaps an actual sequel to the the 1982 movie is now on the horizon? I'd watch it.

I thought that the Acting in the Movie was Very Good, especially from all of the Norwegian Actors.

I didn't hate it, it was more meh. But the monster fx weren't bad and Mary Elizabeth Winstead was a great heroine.

I like it. It's a fitting and well done prequel to the 1982 classic.
