Epic, and while I'm not as high on it as jcush, I'll certainly call it a flawed masterpiece.

I still haven't seen the more recent cut, the even more extended version, that played at a few festivals around three years ago.
From all reports, the 90's Director's Cut is still the defintive version.

Long and un-engaging.

Beautifully shot, but the characters and story aren't interesting enough to justify its length.

I count it as an epic movie. I enjoyed the childhood part of their gangster story better.

8/10 ; which makes it within my Top 56 movies.
it's not as good as Good Bad Ugly/For a Few Dollars More/Once Upon a Time in the West, all three are 10/10's, but outside of those three it's the only other movie from the director I score a 7/10 or higher.
but with that said... it is a bit long but I like the general feel/tone of the movie as it's fairly unique for the gangster genre.

It's the only Leone movie I dislike and wouldn't want to watch again. The Morricone score is lovely though.

I feel that because Once Upon A Time In America is so engrossing the time goes by fairly quickly, therefore it doesn't feel like 4 hours long. While I feel it isn't exactly a masterpiece, it certainly is a very compelling gangster movie, inspite of the flaws.

Everything looks like crap.

Didn't like it. Not a fan of Leone after Once Upon a Time in the West. That was his zenith.
