To be fair, I didn't read the books. So I can only judge the movies. Didn't really like any of them so far, but this one is the most ridiculous one of all 3 of them. Mind numbingly stupid.
A) there is no sex
B) whatever attempt at something sexy there is is so boring, uptight and overhyped at the same time. Miracle. C) Who is this "sex" for??? The woman is shaking in a complete frenzy and ecstasy any time he barely touches her anywhere (why do movies continue to teach people that this is how women are??). Their "daring" sex thing is a missionary with a slightly harder thrusts? Or licking (vanilla) ice cream off of each other. Really? Thats the adventurous sex of Mr Grey? Plus how many times can she be surprised about the existence of his cock? Or whatever that stupid look on her face is supposed to mean.
D) Not to be a YouToo downer but this guy would be a classic predator and sociopath outside these books/movies. Insecure possessive, prone to violence, has clear anger issues, stalks her, tells her where and when she can go anywhere, limits her social circles, likes to punish her for non-compliance relating to the most menial things. manipulates with her 24/7. somehow money and his traumatic childhood make it all good? Pleaase.
E) BDSM themed? COME ON! There is no BDSM. Once again I feel cheated.
F) if you want to show us a tortured woman that you have just "punished horribly" do not show us a woman that was teased with a dildo for 10 seconds and then the dildo was taken away because she "misbehaved" before and now she is supposed to be suffering as a result of that. WHAT??? WHAT?? She doesnt need you or your dildo to cum, you massive dildo. Also women dont get blue balls. Gee.
oh also it has no script, lousy directing, no chemistry between the leads, doesn't show full frontal nudity and is not erotic in any way. Jerking off into a peach is more sexy than this joke of a movie.
If you go see it, consider yourself warned. I give it 2/10 and thats only because of the production value and camerawork. Everything else in it is crap. And by that I mean bigger crap than the two installments before. Much. Bigger. Crap.

The film I saw had just very bland indications of something that one day might be sex but no actual sex. It was like catholic porn. Boobs everywhere but no real sex. Licking ice cream off of someones thigh or laying on top of them or kissing their collarbone I dont consider sex. There was more sex in Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct, History of Violence or Cape Fear, to name a few. And only two of those are even within the genre of being "erotic movies". what a failure this was. they couldnt pull of a decent movie OR decent sex scenes. tl:dr - I wouldnt mind watching this with my grandparents. thats how unsexy and void of sex it was.

it sounded really cool and with a lot of promise and it just was so boring to me. I called the ending not even halfway thru the book. I hate this book so much.I HATED this book. I couldnt event bring myself to care about the ending, nobodys actions were interesting and/or believable. And it didnt even have any internal consistence. The top bodyguards that this gazzilionaire was paying allow for crimes to routinely happen to his family? A bodyguard allows his asset enter a dark room first without checking? A character that is less mature/grown up than Peter Pan AND has outbursts of unmananged anger AND looks like a lost boy is supposed to be someone we root for? Gee. I think I will have to watch History of Violence or Irreversible now just to forget about this failure and remind myself of good movies with well shot sex scenes. Even a silly flick like Shoot Em Up had sexier scenes and that was a pretty ridiculous movie (that I loved nevertheless).

From what I keep hearing, the books sound ridiculously stupid and it's a wonder that the movies seem to take themselves so seriously.

Dude, the best part of the movie was seeing how serious the audience took it. At parts they were gasping, cheering, crying etc... l kid you not, at some “intense” parts the audience was literally gasping out loud.

How else did they make it to a billion dollar gross?

So several people cheering or booing during the movie leads you to the conclusion THE MAJORITY of Americans are sexually repressed?!! Excluding yourself though, right? Your snarky condemnation of MOST AMERICANS proves how edgy and open minded you are. Never mind the fact your comment is so trite you would be embarrassed if you weren't so pleased with your cut and paste "insight". Let's go over some of those revelations again. The third movie in a shitty series based on shitty books is............shitty!!!!!! Brilliant observation nora. A non pornographic movie had ZERO actual sex scenes? Thanks for warning all those people who were expecting full penetration, creampies and all girl gangbangs with 2 foot strap ons. Those expecting nuanced performances , sparkling dialogue and thought provoking "messages" will be disappointed? You mean movies based on books that started out as fan fic are not Oscar worthy? By the way, all the movies in this abysmal series were infinitely more popular outside the US. As in 75% of tickets were purchased by NON AMERICANS. Obviously you meant to say "this movie is a reflection on how sexually repressed and conservative (majority of) NON americans must be.", right? Poor repressed NON Americans. You should do a smug review emphasizing that. Otherwise you're just a bigot.

Obviously you meant to say "this movie is a reflection on how sexually repressed and conservative (majority of) NON americans must be.", right? Poor repressed NON Americans. You should do a smug review emphasizing that. Otherwise you're just a bigot. 1. In case you thought I were - I am not an American myself 2. In my experience, the reactions to movies in Europe and in the USA are generally quite different. In Europe you rarely have people talking (out loud) to the characters on-screen as much (or on their mobile phones during the film, that is something I have ONLY seen happen in the US and I go to the movies 4 times a week each week no matter where I live). Now you may say Americans are less inhibited and more emotional. May be. But there simply are cultural differences that exhibit for example in the way people react to a movie. Americans will often laugh at quite different things than Europeans (or Asians), its intriguing to examine actually, if you have the chance and happen to be in different countries in the position to examine it. The same joke in the same setting but will get a different response based on the country. But regardless of that, I wasnt deriving the fact that Americans seem to enjoy Fifty Shades more than Non-Americans solely from the reactions of the few vocal people in the cinema. 3. You are correct that non-americans purchased more copies/tickets to Fifty Shades. But then again, "non-american" means about 60 other countries TOGETHER. Of course they are going to represent the higher number since its the "rest of the world" (in which americans only represent 300 million out of what, 6 billion?) You can hardly compare those numbers and claim that it means "non americans like it more" - it may just mean there is simply many more non Americans in total. But I am all for scientific approach, if you care to join me, lets find out which country digs Fifty Shades more, so we can call THEM laughably sexually repressed. I will happily apologize to all the not at all repressed americans that recognize how boring Fifty Shades is sexually. :-) We should compare percentage of movie goers vs population. I haven't done the math country-per-country yet (I looked at UK, Germany, France and US so far) for the movies. Want to do the rest? 4. I wasnt talking about (or expecting) Oscar worthiness. I enjoy stupid/silly/non artistic movies a lot actually. Went into it expecting trash. And the movie being trashy is not the problem. Its the movie not working together as intended. Its not erotic or romantic, (forget cinematographic). To me thats the problem. 5. There is plenty of non-pornographic movies that show sex in a way that it is sexy, erotic, and believable and shows more than two heads smushed together kissing/licking each other. No cream pie needed, but if you have seen all 3 of them you must realize there is less sex shown in this installment. No genitals (unlike before), no positions other than missionary (unlike before), no full body shots (unlike before) of either one of them having sex, just details or half body shots. For a movie thats supposed to be erotic, sexually daring and about a sexual relationship mainly, its just very odd. but overall - are you honestly saying that you believe that Americans as a whole (lets generalize just for the sake of this thread) are less sexually conservative than for example Europeans? If so, then if Americans go to Europe and meet European girls, they usually (on average) expect and experience EU girls to be more sexually conservative or more sexually adventurous in your opinion? I am genuinely interested in knowing what you think (and others who care to join). Always happy to learn something new.

It was really bad. So bad. Painful to sit through. I hated it. now try sitting through 15.17 to Paris. Also painful to sit through, albeit not as much and in a different way.
