Didn't shake the whole world..peaked at 34 in the UK and took years to go Gold (100,000 copies), and didn't make any end-of-year polls/lists

Were there any UK bands that were the equivalent of the 80s hair metal/rock bands that followed in VH's wake? Seems all 80s UK music I heard descended from the 70s punk aesthetic (the whole post-punk thing). Still, VH's impact was pretty wide-ranging; there's still a ton of Japanese bands/music inspired by it.

I think UK metal was more influenced by Led Zep, Sabbath, Deep Purple etc, then then likes of Motorhead, Iron Maiden,AC/DC, Thin Lizzy. There was the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal - Saxon, Samson, Angel Witch, Def Lappard Vardis etc, though not sure if VH was any major influence. The whole glam metal thing did produce some chart success for American bands (VH didn't really become well known until "Jump") but there was never really a movement. It did produce a few Brit glam metal bands like Dogs D'Amour and The Quireboys.

Yeah, the NWOBHM was the stuff descended from Zeppelin, Sabbath and Purple as opposed to the hair/glam metal mostly inspired by VH. I guess the latter was mostly just an American thing. Though perhaps I can hear some VH in Def Leppard, but it may just be more the arena rock influence of the late 70s rock bands in general.
