When I see a great movie, I want to find others similar.. For example, I've never seen a movie even close to "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?"
Hopefully people can post movies they love, and would like to see more of... For example, "Falling Down" seems like the 90's version of "Taxi Driver".

I think "Bite the Bullet" (1975) has distinct similarities to "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" One difference is that it is a better film.

I heard from someone "Bite the Bullet" was a less-charming version of Brooks' earlier "The Professionals" (great movie).. I might check it out, thanks.

I was always a big fan of the mercenary type films that took place in post colonial Africa like the Wild Geese. I've seen Dark of the Sun with Rod Taylor. The one I haven't seen or been able to find a US copy of is The Last Grenade with Stanley Baker.

Oof. Anyone know anything like The Last of Sheila? Or have access to Sondheim and Perkins’s never-filmed scripts for The Chorus Girl Murder Case (“…a sort of stew based on all those Bob Hope wartime comedies, plus a little Lady of Burlesque and a little Orson Welles magic show, all cooked into a Last of Sheila-type plot,” Perkins said) or Crime and Variations? A real, honest-to-God murder mystery, clues and all. We just don’t see them nowadays on the big screen (even Branagh’s MotOE didn’t particularly emphasize plotting or games-playing). I’d also love to see something like Congo—jungle-adventure picture, somewhat akin to Indiana Jones, that doesn’t take itself quite seriously. Or we should just cast the duo of Ernie Hudson and Tim Curry in everything. I can’t think of a single movie that couldn’t be made better by throwing them into it. (Another ) I’m sure I could think of a few more if given more time…

Yeah I have been meaning to watch the Last Grenade.
There's another Africa set mercenary film with Ty Hardin-very cheap European film from around that time. King of Africa it is called.

Hadn’t even heard of it. Good? Not going to be on anyone's top ten list but it was diverting enough thanks to the cast. Very bad quality copy I had of it though-not sure how available it is.

Of varying quality: Romancing the Stone (1984) Jewel of the Nile (1985) King Solomon's Mines (1985) Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold (1986) Treasure of the Four Crowns (1983, filmed in 3D)

It's been quite some time, but I remember Christopher Walken was good. Thank for reminding me!

I didn’t like it the first time but it kind of grew on me the second time.

Yeah.. A white-collar 90s version of "Taxi Driver".
I probably mentioned it earlier, but the first movie of this sorts was John Avildsen's (Rocky, The Karate Kid) first featured movie properly released/distributed. I know he acted in one mediocre beatnik movie, and might have directed one or two.
