People are getting hyped for Martin Scorsese's upcoming mob movie The Irishman, not least because it will star the likes of Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, Stephen Graham, Bobby Cannavale, Jesse Plemons and Ray Romano all in the same film. Seeing all of them face off against each other is a mouth-watering prospect. But I can't help but feel people are going to be disappointed because a lot of the big name cast members aren't going to be on screen at the same time and some roles are a lot smaller than you'd think, going off the true life events and the book the film is based on 'I Heard You Paint Houses'. Plus, given the film covers several decades a lot of the actors appear in different time periods and won't interact with each other. For example, Cannavale in a big-budget Scorsese gangster movie has turned heads, but the character he's playing was only in the book for one short scene (that could have been omitted and it would have barely made a difference to the plot). And he is not likely to share screen time with any of the big names bar Robert De Niro...and even then for about 10 seconds. I made the below video giving a breakdown of each main actor's role and how much screen time they will share with each other, if you're interested. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHlPVi8jOUwThere are no spoilers in this video.

I only really care about Pacino, De Niro, and Pesci working together with Scorsese. And Keitel is a nice bonus. The others? I don't dislike any of them, but Cannival only having one scene wouldn't exactly break my heart.

The FX is what I am curious about-but I have to wonder if there will be a creepy waxwork feeling to it because people do change as they age-they slow down, their voices change-they cant just slap a digital mask on them and say their done. They used a body double for Jeff Bridges in Tron sequel because of this reality.

The fact that Netflix has to distribute a Scorsese film with De Niro & Pacino (finally) in the lead goes to show how far the film industry has sunk.
