.........finally watching, and, inevitably, ending up being disappointed by? For instance, I just watched Network (1976) for the very first time, and though it was okay, there was just NO way it was EVER going to live up to the ensuing 42 years of 'hype'..... SAVE FERRIS

It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
I found the movie dreadfully boring.

Don't shoot me...
The Dark Knight. I'll admit, I'm not a big fan of Comic Book movies. But I heard this one was Gone With the Wind, Citizen Kane and The Godfather rolled into one. Never went to the theater, never rented it, don't think I caught it until it came on HBO. Guess what? To me it was another Comic Book movie.

Don't shoot me either when I say Nashville. I am a big fan of 70s New Age Hollywood and I really wanted to like it, but I found it dreadfully dull. And over 2 1/2 hours is way too long for this kind of film.

The Princess Bride. I didn't hate it, but I was just like, "Meh...it was a movie."

SAVE FERRISI felt the same with Network. It was ok but not the masterpiece I had hoped. But the film I would pick is The Empire Strikes Back.

Things to do in Denver when youre Dead Thanks SullaEdit...oops I for some reason glossed right over the disappointed part of this post. I love Thing to Do in Denver. Disappointed would be 2001 A Space Odyssey. I was hyped to finally see it. My cousin had a copy of it and were both decent sci-fi fans...but I hated it with a passion.

Schindler's List--I finally saw it about two years ago, after putting it off for years since I was afraid it would be just another one of Spielberg's derivative, self-conscious mediocrities. It certainly was classic Spielberg tripe.
The Godfather--First viewing about two years ago. A good movie, but not, as it has been hyped, the best movie of all time--IMO, not even the best movie of 1972 (watching Cabaret for the umpteenth time on TCM right now, I'm wondering yet again how it lost the Best Picture Oscar to The Godfather).
Rocky--I got around to seeing this last year. It was just...not much.

The Seventh Seal, which went from unintentionally funny to painfully boring in minutes and ended up feeling 10 hours long. I couldn't for a moment take "Death" seriously as a character because of that unintentionally hilarious looking visual design. I sympathize with Bergman's fear of death to a degree, but filling every single scene with this theme, one way or another, was just too much, while his religious problem do not really interest me at all. Also Bergman's use of symbolism was really clumsy and often just embarrassing. Especially the scene with Death sawing down a tree was comedy gold - THE TREE IS THE TREE OF LIFE OH THAT IS SO CLEVER!!1!
For what it's worth, Wild Strawberries is one of my all-time favorites.

The record for me is Faust 1926. Heard of it back in the 70s-didnt see it until a few years ago.
Inspiration for the Night on Bald Mountain sequence in Fantasia.
