screenrant.com/annihilation-whitewashing-alex-garland/Seriously. People need to calm the fuck down. It’s literally led by a all female cast. Is that not enough? What ever happened to casting the most qualified person for the role? I’m sure Portman will kill her role that is “of Asian descent”. People just need to chill out and enjoy a well made film without spewing out virtue signaling and smacking a “whitewash” label onto anything they can.

Can anyone name ONE actress of Asian descent that has even 1/4 of Natalie Portman's star power?

And "The Equalizer" is supposed to be a white British guy. Just one example. Who cares?

And Roland from last year's ‘The Dark Tower’ (which is one of my all time favorite books) is supposed to be a white dude. I didn’t complain when they casted Elba; he’s a great actor. Race swapping is only ok when it’s a black guy taking a white persons role apparently.

But she is technically Jewish and the movie business is run by them. This is the nonsense of the whitewash debate--take your complaints to the right department.
It is not "whitewashing."

Why cant people just apreciate movie anymore? Exactly. All signs point to this movie being incredible but people still manage to find a way to complain and interject indentity politics into it like they do with everything else. No one can appreciate a good movie for being a good movie anymore.

Honestly.... I don't really care.... because I didn't read the book, besides the cast looks immensely talented.

Honestly.... I don't really care.... because I didn't read the book, besides the cast looks immensely talented. EXACTLY! BTW, the author of the book LOVED the film so all these ultra PC SJWs can kick rocks. They are looking for some sort of outrage when there is no reason to be mad. I cannot wait to see this film! Also, I want to echo the OP's observation that the majority of the cast/leads are women .

This is based on an Asian thing? I had no idea. Things are so whitewashed now you don't even know they had Asian 0rigins to begin with. People complain about the Chinese knockoffs but then crap.like this happens.

People complain about the Chinese knockoffs but then crap.like this happens. It is not based on an Asian thing. It is based on a series of books by an American author. The character is supposed to be Asian in the books, although apparently there was no mention of it until the second book. What things are "so whitewashed now"? Two of the examples mentioned in the link in the OP are idiotic (Ghost in the Shell and Death Note). Those are American remakes of Japanese stories. Why would an American remake have to keep the original setting? The whole purpose of remakes is to adapt the story to your own country.
