Adored it..one of my fave movies, let alone fave 'Superhero' movies.
I was a huge fan of the comic book, when it came out moons ago...one chapter a month for 12 months. Liked Dave Gibbons and his work but Not a huge fan of Alan Moore himself [have met them both].... but some of Moore's best work has sublime moments.
I was aware of the aborted attempts to movie-ise it, including it once being touted for direction by Terry Gilliam, which sorta fits, but didn't pan out.
When Zack's movie came out, after seeing a class trailer with a Smashing Pumpkin's song, I booked day off work to go on my own in the early afternoon after a lunch with girlfriend...as i didn't want any pricks talking through. I reviewed movies every week for over 2 years for a local tv channel then, and could not face an evening with a packed house after waiting what seemed like decades for something.
Hot dogs in hand, with about 5 folk in the cinema [excellent] , I was fully expecting to be disappointed and underwhelmed by the flick. Bloody hell...i came out jaw-dropped for the first time in absolute years after a movie experience. Absolutely smashing on many levels, visually, audially, some ace performances and apart from one little tweak, very, very faithful to the source material, which most super-hero movie-makers ride rough-shod over...perhaps Sin City being the other exception. Little treats as well, including a past favourite, Stephen McHattie appearing. One of the few videos that one of my best friend's has never slept through.
I suppose one of the reasons I was disappointed hugely by Zack's Superman effort, was that i was expecting the same level of knock-out, which it didn't do it for me, but if Watchmen is gonna be Mr Snyder's Citizen Kane, and he's peaked early... nowt wrong with that.
He get's my pint and a huge metaphoric handshake for, to me , a huge and infinitely, re-visitable movie experience. And of course the dvd gifted those extra scenes.

It was much better than I ever expected to be...one reason why I was excited at the prospect of him directing the DCEU films. Sadly he seemed to have lost hi s mojo after Watchmen The problem with MoS is WB wanted Nolan and Goyer to make it after the Dark Knight trilogy was completed. Nolan refused, but he did give a drafted outline of how he would ground Superman as direction for the project. Man of Steel was a hybrid of Batman Begins and Watchmen. Snyder had major handcuffs and had certain guidelines he had to follow due to Nolan's direction. BvS was WB interfering with the project. It wasnt the direction he originally intended. Joaquin Phoenix was going to play Lex and it was going to be a direct sequel to MoS with no Batman. However, because MoS didn't make over 750M world wide they said "throw in Batman" and Joaquin Phoenix dropped out because Lex was going to be a one time thing like Ledger's Joker. So they basically made Snyder do a 4 films in one with BvS and honestly, for what he had to do (Sequel to MoS, Dark Knight Returns, Death of Superman, and JL set up) he balanced it fairly well.

Intriguing...certainly does indicate why the other movies were patchier.

The best thing about the movie is the opening credits sequence, which is one of the best I've seen. As for the movie itself, I liked the 1st half, but the 2nd half was disappointing.
6/10
Oh, and I thought Malin Akerman was miscast.

Saw it in theaters, though it was alright, haven't had much desire to rewatch it. They tried to cram an entire comic books series into a movie and the pacing felt rather rushed because of it. I've heard the directors cut is much better though.
