Man does it feel like a long time since TV's glory days (for me) of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Justified, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, True Detective (SEASON 1 OF COURSE) and before that prime-Dexter, The Shield, The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Six Feet Under etc.
Now I'm reduced to watching This is Us with the other half. There is just nothing airing right now that I'm interested in. With Game of Thrones not coming back until 2019, it's going to be a lean TV year at the sdm household. I will say that I'm greatly anticipating the return of Better Call Saul and, to a much lesser extent, Westworld. But that's all.
So help me out, sports boarders. What are the shows that I need to be watching as we speak? I've heard of Peaky Blinders which I keep meaning to make a start on. What about this Handmaid's Tale thing? Legion? SOMETHING?!

Been catching Mad Med reruns on the Audience channel. Other than that, Inside the NBA, Around the Horn, Pardon the Interruption and sports. But have caught none of the Olympics.

You're absolutely right, apart from Game of Thrones, there isn't much else I'm excited about seeing at the moment.
There are, however, some pretty decent shows you could watch: - Big Little Lies (absolutely loved it) - Stranger Things - Bloodline (just watch season 1, which is brilliant, and leave it at that) - Fargo - The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Here are some shows that are OK and worth a watch: - The Americans - Orange is the new black (season 2 was great, otherwise so-so) - Mindhunter
Meant to be good, but haven't gotten around to yet: - The Night Manager - Dark - The Leftovers - The Good Place
And some oldies but goodies, in case you haven't watched these: - The West Wing - Band of Brothers - Firefly - Arrested Development

I do already watch Stranger Things, Fargo, and Orange is the New Black and am up to date with them. All are on hiatus right now unfortunately. Is Fargo even coming back?

Just read that Fargo season 4 was confirmed by the show runners and is slated to come out in 2019.
Remembered two more shows that I really like: Master of None and Atlanta

Well if you liked Breaking Bad there's no reason not to watch Better Call Saul.
Black Mirror.
Peaky Blinders is tremendous.. so far at least. I haven't gotten into season 3 yet, but the first 2 are great.
Black Mirror.
Preacher is a kind of bizarre and interesting show. I loved the comics it's based on, and the show is not really like it's source material in most ways, but I think it's pretty odd and unique anyway.
Black Mirror.

New one started on BBC on Sunday called Collateral with Carey Mulligan and John Simm. Good start. Only four episodes though.
Shetland - policier set on the Scottish island group. Dougie Henshall is good as the lead cop. New series started this week. Six parter.

Game of Thrones, Fargo, Stranger Things, True Detective ALL are set for 2019 sadly.

My mistake with Better Call Saul. Season 4 was not as good, but I still found it entirely worthwhile. I'm consistently impressed by the quality of filmmaking and acting in the show, and even though I didn't love all of the stories, I still think it's one of the most thought provoking and imaginative bits of fiction I've come across recently. Hope it comes back sooner than 2019. In a completely different sort of way, I'm hoping to jump into Ash Vs. The Evil Dead. I saw the first 2 episodes or so when it was new, and it seemed like a lot of goofy fun. It's recently been added to Netflix. I also have watched the first couple of episodes of Waco. It's such a strange and sad story and so relevant still in an odd way. It hasn't gotten into the real meat of what happened yet, but the performances are solid. Quite a good cast. I'm hoping the rest of the series is as (or more) engaging.

A poster above mentioned Big Little Lies. The book itself is I think chick lit but the miniseries was excellent. Stranger Things was great as well.
There is one show that I can't recommend highly enough. It's a Netflix show called American Vandal. Now if you just read about the subject matter or discover who created it, you'd be skeptical. This was legitimately one of the most engrossing shows I've ever watched, and at only (I think) 8 episodes it's easily bingeable. It is so well made that they wouldn't have to change much if the topic was murder or something else "serious".

Neither of these are new but both are good and weren't listed: The Leftovers and The Knick. If you can't find good new stuff for 2018, I'd go back to both of those.

I am enjoying Altered Carbon at the moment, but I know I am in the minority.
Have you ever seen The Shield? Battlestar Galactica? Those are two of my favorites. Netflix also has a lot of good shows, some of which you mentioned. Daredevil, Narcos, and House of Cards are great ones.

It's one of the greatest shows of all time. Contrary to most shows, it actually got better as it went on. To be honest, I think I'd almost rather rewatch shows like The Shield, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, The Wire than start new shows. I did watch and enjoy Daredevil's first season but never bothered to watch the second. Didn't care for Narco's first season. No interest in House of Cards. Altered Carbon looks different, at least.

The Shield and Breaking Bad were the only shows I can remember that got better every season. I am the same as you, I find myself rewatching shows I have seen a bunch rather than watch new ones.
Also, I am loving Altered Carbon, but most people I talk to did not like it and I can understand why. It is very different.

I have just finished watching “Altered Carbon” on Netflix and I loved it.
Also on Netflix, there is a Spanish series that has been highly recommended to me but I haven’t watched yet: The Money Heist (La Casa de Papel).
“The Good Place” is a new comedy that just ended its second season. I started watching it mostly because of Kristen Bell, whom I have loved since her Veronica Mars days, but it is definitely worth watching even if you don’t know her from Eve. I think season 1 is on Netflix.
I find “Life in Pieces” a decent sitcom.
“The Last Kingdom”, a British series set in the 9th century based on books by Bernard Cornwell, is pretty good. There have been two seasons so far. Not sure if it is coming back for a third year.
I also watch a couple of Québec shows (Lâcher Prise, Le Pays d'en Haut, Unité 9, Faits Divers), but I am not sure you would be able to find subtitled versions for them.
