Are there any movies that really explore this serious problem?
I remember in the film WITH A SONG IN MY HEART, a then unknown Robert Wagner played a young GI who was the victim of "shell-shock", and was helped somewhat when Susan Hayward (as Jane Froman) sang to him. IMHO, that scene was handled poorly, mostly because PTSD was so little known at the time.
And I also believe that the character of Ashley Wilkes in GWTW also suffered from this disease. This was indicated in the winter orchard scene where Ashley tells a disinterested Scarlett about the horrors he faced during the Civil War. Unfortunately, the miscast Leslie Howard completely ruined what could have been a very poignant scene with his emotionless reading.
On TV, my favorite episode of SIMON AND SIMON was the one where Rick was forced to deal with his own psychological scarring from his experience in Vietnam.
Could anyone tell me of any others? It doesn't have to stem from warfare; it could arise from physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, as in SYBIL and THE THREE FACES OF EVE.

Not sure of any that really explore the issue but:
Apocalypse Now: the opening scene with Sheen is PTSD 101 – replaying visions of explosions in your head, need to get back into combat, self-destructiveness....
The Deer Hunter: De Niro and Walken are captivated by the POW episode. De Niro doesn't feel comfortable back in Clairton.
Ryan's Daughter: Christopher Jones's character is haunted by war experiences.

...see the recently released DVD film "Thank You For Your Service" which explores 3 case histories of true life Iraqi war veterans and the things that triggered the PTSD upon their return...but beware, it is not an easy film to watch...

Mine Own Executioner: a fine and moving British film about the attempts of a psychiatrist, as played by Burgess Meredith, to cure a World War II veteran (Keiron Moore)

Thank you for your answers.
I guess I could also add CARRIE, whose heroine was psychologically scarred by her Bible-thumping mother.

Classic: Hitchcock's Marnie took a stab (sorry) at it.
Recent documentary: The Ground Truth sounds like it covers the subject in depth.

a documentary film, the controversy surrounding it is almost as fascinating as the subject matter. Here is a link to the film: Let There Be Light

I'm hoping that someone will make a movie (theatrical, made-for-TV, straight-to-DVD, or Streaming) depicting the PTSD that people are suffering from all the school shootings (18 so far this year!) as well as the unwillingness of that orange baboon in the Oval Office and the Republicans dominating Congress to do anything about the proliferation of assault weapons in this country, especially among the mentally ill.
It sickens me that the NRA has such a tight control over politicians.

You really need to look up the TROLL word you use so freely and figure out when it should be used. On another thread, I queried if you played the part of Festus' mule on GUNSMOKE. I was mistaken; Ruth was a hell of a lot smarter than you! You recently posted a HOAX Death thread and then called all of the people who were upset by the FAKE News "trolls". REALLY.... you need to look the word up, stat, asap ! LOOK up the word. Read Histories. Get a grip on reality. Have as nice a life as you can with your Birthday Bitchings and your Tribute Thread Dissing of the Dead.
