For “Some Like It Hot”.
If Doris Day can be nominated for “Pillow Talk” Monroe could have for that film, which is far more iconic.

Marilyn Monroe wasn't as respected as an actress as her rival, Elizabeth Taylor. She was always pigeonholed at playing dumb blonde roles, and I don't think she was well-liked in the industry because she was constantly delaying production on her films.

I've read that there was a general perception that Monroe was playing herself in Some Like It Hot. And that the "Dumb Blonde" act was wearing thin. And she was getting to be a royal pain in the ass to work with. That usually doesn't endear you to the Academy.

Been a long time since I've seen the movie, but what is it about her performance that suggests Oscar-worthy?
