Armond White, the famous, or infamous, contrarian movie reviewer, is at it again--Very extensive, well thought out review of the film--he disses Black Panther pretty bad, and adds The Chronicles Of Riddick(2004) is a much more successful movie depicting race in a futuristic fantasy setting--see his full comments in The National Review

Audiences would be more worried if he said he liked BP as it would be a strong indicator that it's a total POS.  |

Agreed, this is another interesting review, though he might be more qualified on the blackploitation angle than the female one, and he is a bit too much a biased Snyder acolyte - but i agree with most things he says even the criticism, undeniable. And still Marvel, and arguably even Snyder DCEU has nothing as iconic and discussed as the no mans' land scene (sorry, warehouse brawl scene...). |

I’d be worried if he actually liked the movie. He should be forced to submit his review before everyone else. That way he would have to guess what the popular consensus is going to be. It would be hilarious when he guessed incorrectly and found himself in agreement with the hoi polli.  |

I’ve long thought that White is the best critic working today, as he offers genuine critiques (distinct from criticisms), not plot synopses intertwined with “I thought it was good.” I only agree with him about half of the time, but he’s a genuinely intelligent man (as all of his detractors admit), admittedly with strong opinions, who deeply cares about film, just as Kael and Sarris did. Quite a talent. I haven’t seen Black Panther, have very little interest in seeing it, and thus cannot give any kind of critical judgment, but his review was awfully fun to read.
