I have seen them all except The Story of Dr. Wassell (1944). I can't seem to find that anywhere. Does anyone know how I can find it.
My impressions about his sound feature films vary considerably. How would you rank them--and why---starting with The Squaw Man (1931)?

I doubt many of us have seen all of DeMille's talkies, but I think most of us would rate The Ten Commandments as his best. In my opinion Reap the Wild Wind is a close second. I have seen The Story of Dr. Wassell. It is a good film but unnecessarily long. Interesting that DeMille used Gary Cooper in four films and none of them are considered classics.

The YouTube one I checked first is one of those "cut off the edges" ones but there seem to be several others. Assorted links for Dr. Wassell Good luck with the quest.

Thanks Bat-- I will keep trying.... I think I will try to get a DVD from one of those sites, but most look like poor quality.

Sometimes poor quality is better than totally not seeing a film ...especially if it's the one you really need to complete a "quest". I even watched one of those "trimmed" things on YouTube ... ugh ! BUT got to "see" the story anyway. Would keep an eye out for a better copy if I could remember which picture it was Impressive that you have seen all but one of the DeMille sound features ! kijii
As far as ranking - for movies that he directed, I would have to say #1 = The Greatest Show on Earth ... a film that is, imo, disliked largely because it was unfortunate enough to come out in the wrong year and been given major awards instead of something else. I went to see the Ringling Brother's Circus every year and this movie just resonates ---- the circus itself presented via a pretty good story. I dislike the 10 Commandments but that's largely due to the Epic-C Heston and I don't care for Pseudo-Biblical-Epics in general.
so ... nice chatting with ya !

so ... nice chatting with ya ! I agree, that The Greatest Show on Earth is probably is best sound-era movie. I think of The Ten Commandments as basically a biopic of Moses. Other than The Buccaneer (1938) and the Gary Cooper movies...this is a great bargain for DeMille movies: www.amazon.com/DeMille-Collection-Cleopatra-Crusades-Frightened/dp/B000E8JO32/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519140411&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Cecil+B.+DeMille+CollectionMy impression is that sometimes his "cast of thousands" takes over the story. I also believe, at times, he actually put too many things in given frames--over crowing the frames. More is not necessarily better...

I liked seeing him in Sunset Boulevard and really enjoy his narration in Greatest Show. It would be nice if they made a biog movie of him but they probably never will. So many potentially good films will never be made because there is no $$$$ in it . I cannot think of anyone in the new crop of actors who could even begin to play him and sadly many of them probably have no idea who he was.
maybe cya at the GG later kijii

I don't feel good about today's topic. But then, I actually won the"Charlie Chan game" without ever seeing a CC movie from beginning to end.. Sometimes it is just about accidentally finding a magic info site and playing it for all it is worth.
Like you, I sometimes don't understand the rules of the game......

I am being thrown by the Early Version / Later Version remakes and the Oscar thisandthats and so many movies that had multiple possible people in them. That and the slow computer connection make it a lot less stressful to just watch what is happening on screen.
I really like playing the Bakers Dozen Games over on the Games Board especially when there are several regulars playing in real time and we have to keep editing notes because we all posted at the same time and often with the same answer. You might want to take a look over there kijii. It's open 24/7 and some of the SUPER-SIZED game threads are post whenever you want to with no waiting for someone else to post. No winners or losers interns either !
Gee... I hope the OP won't mind the thread going off the tracks a bit

I've seen bits and pieces of the Buccaneer though not enough to comment on it.
Reap the Wild Wind (1942) 7/10
Unconquered (1947) 6/10
Samson and Delilah (1950) 7/10
The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) 5/10
The Ten Commandments (1956) 10/10
....the man was quite the showman.
