Talk innocuous news regarding the NFL over the next few dry months here. Figure we don't need a thread every time someone announces a player had "the best training camp of his career."
Jarvis Landry franchise-tagged by the lolphins. Not sure why. Now they need to make some key cuts, as they had almost no cap space as it was.

The Vikings have more than enough cap space to franchise Keenum for 24 million and keep Teddy or Bradford.

They're saying that the tagging was for trading him . . . but I'm not sure how much I'd want Landry. There's got to be cheaper ways to get 8 yards per catch.

Birds promote WR coach Mike Groh to OC Coordinator (hope Reich does well in Indy)
Alshon Jeffery has surgery to repair torn rotator cuff. Apparently he played with the injury all season - I get he was looking for a new contract (which he got and earned) - but I couldn't be happier - after a disappointing slow start - he really came on and proved to be a leader on the team both on and off the field with his actions/words.

Marcus Peters to be traded to Rams. If McVay and Wade Phillips can handle him (this is a guy that's supposedly hard to control) it's a strong addition to an already dangerous team.

I know the Browns must have a ton of cap room, but if I was a fan of them, would I want them to break the bank for Cousins? They'd have to in order to get him to go there over other teams. If they're gonna sign a free agent I'd probably rather they sign whoever the Vikings don't re-sign and otherwise follow your plan as stated above, and take a QB lower in the draft. They have what, 75 picks this year?

They have what, 75 picks this year? cousins and the 'skins have always been intriguing to me. i'd always refer to them (him) as the most bipolar team in all of sports. he'd throw for ridiculous stats - like over 400 yards and 4 TDs in a game - but they'd always finish like 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 and never go anywhere and he'd (they'd) always seem to sh*t the bed when it mattered. don't know. maybe one of those situations where a change of scenery may help? i would even love to see the Browns do what the 'Skins did years ago when they took Cousins - they nabbed RGIII first and then Cousins later on. hell - like you said - Browns have a ton of pics. take Allen, Mayfield whoever in the 1st and then nab Jackson later on. you just may strike gold. i love people now coming out to defend Lamar Jackson after Polian came out and said he should switch positions to WR. critics stating he's 'small' like RGIII and would get lit up and broken. kid is 6'3 and around 215 and can put weight on - take a flier on him. he's a human highlight reel and has made strides throwing too - he's not just a scrambling runner. kid had no defense at all at Louisville - he pretty much put those teams on his back and managed to knock off the elite of the ACC at times. reminds me of people hating on Deshaun Watson and i scratched my head why he was selected after #10 in the draft. played for an elite program, won a National Championship and was a proven winner. this kid won the Heisman for a reason - he's a winner. any team that wouldn't gamble on him in the 4th round is nuts in my eyes

He's not bad, like he's not Mark Sanchez, but he's like Tony Romo lite. I think the Redskins are perennially one of the most poorly constructed teams around, so it's not like he's had a great team around him. Most of the teams that would be in the market for him aren't all that great either. If the Browns hit on this draft they would be attractive, though I think Hue Jackson is a terrible coach. If I was Cousins I'd rank the Jets first of his potential suitors, but I'd go to the Browns before I'd go to the Broncos. That is one overrated franchise and other than signing Peyton Manning I think Elway sucks as a GM.

Lots of different Martavis Bryant trade rumors out there, everything from teams giving up a draft pick, to the Dolphins trading Devante Parker for him, to the Packers trading Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix for him.

Blake Bortles gets a three-year extension. People laugh but this is the best move for the Jaguars. Better this than spending big on Cousins and being unable to keep their team together over the next few years. They can still draft a QB this year and develop him for a couple of seasons.

Yeah it’s the right move for the Jags to sign Bortles, he’s not great but he’s solid and they can’t go out and sign a big time QB use they would have to give up a lot of their talent to get a Cousins type, and they are already arguably the 2nd best team in the AFC, I think it’s possible for them to get to the Super Bowl with Bortles, I mean the Eagles just won one with Nick Foles at QB, and I would put Foles and Bortles on about the same level. They can draft another QB in the 2nd or 3rd round to have as a replacement if Bortles drops off.

"Josh McDaniels rule" will be instituted - teams will be allowed to hire coaches while their current team is still involved in the playoffs.
