Which show do you think was better, "Highway to Heaven" (1984-1989) or "Touched by an Angel" (1994-2003)? Two shows with angels. I honesty do not know which I think is better. I have seen dozens of "Touched" and perhaps only about ten "Highway episodes.

Both unwatchable over sentimentalized twaddle with hackneyed scripts and plots.

I never watched Touched by an Angel but I did watch Highway to Heaven and it was wonderfully sappy and hokey.

I watched Touched by an Angel and Highway to Heaven and gave them both a fair chance BUT they were TOO sappy and hokey. Angel comes on just before and after Columbo and if I turn the set on early, I mute the sound so I don't have to listen to it.

My favorite of these 2 choices that I definitely voted on was Highway to Heaven . IMPO - These 2 memorable actors Michael Landon & Victor French left a wonderful impression on me with this show and on Little House on the Prairie as well . Thanks so much geode for your subject post .

They filmed a lot of "Highway to Heaven" near where I lived in the Hollywood / Los Felix area of Law Angeles in the first season episodes I have watched so far. One ends with the duo driving down Winona Blvd. where I started to live a couple of years later.

Touched by an Angel is one of my favourite shows. One thing this series did that was quite different than "Highway to Heaven" was to show the angels involved in a historical context with figures like Charles Lindbergh and Mark Twain. Today I watched the episode with Abraham Lincoln, and like the others some true history was included to launch the interfacing with the regular characters. I think this series may have more intensity in general. One scene has Monica telling President Lincoln about his historical legacy. It was perhaps even more moving to watch it now than it would have been a couple of years ago.

IMPO - You should definitely at least have a few mini marathons for both of these fine shows on DVD . When you get the spare time of course - it will be so worth it . Although both of these shows do have it's sad or sometimes unexpected moments within it's well developed storylines . Of course at the same time the overall messages of these two fine shows is - " it's never too late for second chances in this life " and " to never give up no matter what happens " . IMPO - These shows always put me in a better and " more positive perspective " also as I have watched these in my early childhood & teen years too . Also thanks so much geode for sharing your wonderful local story with us here especially about your home area where some of the show settings were too ( that is so awesome indeed ! ) .

I lived in Salt Lake City when I was very young, but I have visited it since from time to time and I recognize some locations used in "Touched By an Angel" episodes even though the cities in the plot of the show were usually elsewhere. In honor of Alfred Einstein's birthday I did a mini-marathon from the seventh season starting with "Face of God" in which he appears as a character. This was the first time I had ever seen an episode with Gloria, and ironically it is her first episode. I followed this up with "Netherlands" (frequently voted as one of the best episodes of the series) and its continuation into the two part end of that season, "Shallow Water"...

Never once watched Touched By An Angel.
Highway To Heaven was great though. When Michael Landon went in for the ugly cry, it was heavenly TV!

My guess is that if you thought that "Highway to Heaven" was great, you would think "Touched By An Angel" was at least very good. As I have said after watching many episodes of both series I still can't say that I prefer one over the other.
