I have already brought this to the attention of tech support, but since this is where I usually post, I thought I should post this, fyi. My other post is on the tech support thread if you are interested.

You said in the other post it was spyware from a link posted by another person. You need to report who that was and the exact post. Either that person also has a spyware problem or linked to spyware intentionally. Now that I said that I'm hoping it wasn't a link I posted.

I just read your post, looks like you were not hacked, looks like you were scammed, can you please provide the link?

Sadly, it was a link you provided, about the deputies involved in the school shooting, if memory serves. I will read back through your posts to verify.

Every link I've posted in the last two days has been to Yahoo. It's highly unlikely you got spyware from a Yahoo link. More than likely it was already there and that's just when you noticed it or else, as gadreel may have meant, you just got scammed out of a few hundred dollars.

I just went to that link and got nothing, but scams are rarely a permanent fixture on a site.
What you are describing is a classic scam, a number comes up you call it, they ask you for money to fix a problem that was never happening on your computer.

The tech support number I got was for easytech work, 1-855-666-1991. I called that number and they went through my computer with Hitman Pro, CCleaner and a few other programs. I photographed some of the screen activity with a regular digital camera and wrote down as much as I could. I was concerned that this wasn't legitimate, but I am not a 'techie' and didn't know what else to do.

That's a number for a known computer scam artist. 800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-855-666-1991If you put the payment on a credit card or debit card you can check with the company that issued the card to see if it's too late to cancel payment. Then run a virus program to see if that person installed any virus or spyware on your computer.

I have ESET NOD32, will that suffice to run a virus/spyware check?

I talked to my bank, they have cancelled my debit card and are sending a new one, and have opened a dispute claim. Wish me luck...

theoncomingstorm On Gad's advice I am going to take the computer to the tech support center that I usually go to and have them check it for some stuff he listed. I will run ESET NOD32 before I shut down. I'll stay on this site for another hour in case anyone wants to reply. Then I will log off, run the program and go from there. Thanks for the help.

Just FYI, all, I changed the thread to reflect that it was on another site that I got scammed.
I'm taking the computer in to the place I bought it to have their tech support check for anything they might have added to my computer.
I won't be posting here for a while; I am staying on here for another 40 minutes, then logging off, scanning myself, then shutting down.

Sad to hear about the hack and that it's put you off posting here for the time being. I hope that there's not been any irreversible damage or security breaches caused.

I guess I will find out soon enough from the real tech guys at the Micro Center.
