Häxan(1922) Swedish silent documentary on witchcraft through the ages, combined with reenactments of witchcraft practices and how it and those accused of it were dealt with in the middle ages. Surprisingly good visual quality. 7/10.

This scene scared me as a kid. "I've Got No Strings" dancing with Dutch girls, French girls and Russian girls, dancing marionettes looked too human I guess, moving marionette dolls are scary. One of the best animated movies made, every little detail is so immaculately drawn Pinocchio 1940

Remember this one, supposed to break Lesley Anne-Down into the big movies. Lot's of publicity at the time. Tons of bad reviews, and some even suggesting John Gielgud returning his Sir title for appearing in this movie. Many years later, how was it?

Surprisingly good visual quality. 7/10. I watched it a couple of months ago. The visuals were pretty creepy at time. I hear it gave HP Lovecraft the willies.
Some weeks you can't avoid Diane Baker.
First she was in MIRAGE which I watched yesterday and tonight she was in KRAKATOA: EAST OF JAVA. The latter is a pretty bad movie. I hadn't seen it in a long time and wondered if I should revisit it. Wasn't worth it. Cinerama! JD Cannon does a pretty good poor man Bogart impression though.

Krakatoa is actually west of Java, but the movie's producers thought that "East" sounded more atmospheric.

I'm genuinely not sure if the decision to leave it unclear whether Philip Seymour Hoffman's character is innocent or guilty was right. I feel as if I've just watched three-quarters of a great movie.

Farewell, My Lovely, 1975, dir. Dick Richards. After a string of mediocre movies, what a relief to see a good one. And this is great. Sure, I guess Robert Mitchum should have played Philip Marlowe 20 years earlier, but he’s so good in this—world-weary, sarcastic, yet chivalrous, a perfect Marlowe—that five minutes into it, I stopped caring about the age thing. The atmosphere is good; the tone is right; the dialogue is quick and funny; all the performances are excellent; the film becomes emotional as it reaches Raymond Chandler’s last twist. The movie is not a totally faithful adaptation of Chandler’s book, but it’s mostly faithful, and anyway it has the Chandler spirit, which is what really matters. I think I even prefer this to the better-known 1944 adaptation, Murder, My Sweet. Definitely recommended.

I watched Gone With The Wind for the 31 time. That's 123 hours of your life you won't get back. You could have written a poem or learned Latvian grammar in that time.

Elvis (2022) - I never too crazy about Baz Luhrmann's style. Sometime he over editing. Likewise in this one. However, it didn't bother me as much this time, because of the wonderful performance of the Austin Butler playing Elvis. Very intriguing biopic telling through the point of view of his manager played by Tom Hanks.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) - Story wasn't that interesting to me. Feels like a typical Marvel Comic movie, a tab bit better than those though. The strength for the movie is in the visual. The movie was full of actions, and when there were no action, you get to see gorgeous scenery. Very long movie, Aside from a few moment, it was very entertaining.
