Sugarland Express (1974). Very strange drama in which a couple escape from prison (Ithink) and go on the run, kidnapping a policeman along the way,and being followed by a lot of other policemen. I found it very difficult to understand, and some of the dialogue was quite difficult to follow. The runaway couple (Goldie Hawk and someone whose nameI forget) are so dim that it seems hard to believe the policeman couldn’t have outwitted them quite easily.

That the way I felt when I first watched Spielberg's Sugarland Express, but I have grown fonder of it over the years and recognize its excellence. Fascinating film, based on a real life incident.

1941 (1979). Frantic but occasionally funny comedy set around Hollywood just after Pearl Harbour, as various characters prepare for a possible Japanese invasion. My favourite bit was Slim Pickens escaping from a Japanese submarine.

![](https://themoviescreenscene.files.wordpress.com/2017/11/aaaa.jpg) Lost Horizon 1937 directed by Frank Capra One of those big-scale adventure movie of the 1930's with a pacifistic and a bit of a philosophical message. Been wanting to re-watch it for a very long time. While I liked watching it again, this version was a so-called restored version with lots of stills and voices, while those scenes offcourse are interesting it sadly also disrupts the rhythm of the movie while watching it. ![](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c1/04/f0/c104f06522defd77590ded59541b939c.jpg)

Should have ended last night on a high, with Escape from New York (1981), but took me three nights to get through the boring and not very enjoyable Tony Scott film, Revenge (1990).
The plot and theme kind of resembles in parts, to another early Kevin Costner thriller, where he plays the same smug and arrogant military dude, who seems to think he is so much better than anyone else, along with a very punchable appearence, ending up soon doing his old pal (Anthony Quinn) a "favor", all while falling several times into his young hot trophy wife, with his privates, over and over again.
True love, within a few seconds from the first time he sees her, and yeah, I knew where things would head from there on.
And not far off One Way Out (1987), that means bad business for the loving couple, and Costner and his dame (Madeleine Stowe) is about to get a lesson in "humility", of course from the stereotypical baddies, who do not kill either, so we go from the old mobster doing his revenge take, only to have the just as unlikeable "hero", end up with being even more vengeful, and by then I could not care any less what happened.
Thankfully, the stunning Madeleine Stowe helped me focus, all while Miguel Ferrer and John Leguizamo shows up, much later on, but they cannot save this from being another letdown.
2 hours, which felt at times more like 20, and not a horrible ride, but yeah, I guess I am not much a big fan of Kevin Costner, and thought it was mediocre at "best".
5/10

![](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/34/92/0f/34920fc9215e3eaabca2fa227a39c266--orchids-jack-oconnell.jpg) No Orchids for Miss Blandish 1948 directed by St. John Legh Clowes What a strange hybrid of a movie. A British movie all dressed up and sound like an American gangster-crime movie. With all actors speaking in American accents, actors who I've hardly ever heard of. The whole production looks rather expensive. The story ain't too bad about kidnapping a heiress by low-life gangsters only to be out-smarted by bigger gangsters. The execution though ain't too good. Based on a novel by James Hadley Chase that was also the basis of Robert Aldrich's The Grissom Gang 1971. ![](https://60minuteswith.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/HeaderMissBlandishReview.jpg)
