Quite surprised that there isn't a thread for this one. Nightmare is my 2nd favourite horror franchise next to Halloween. Freddy is also my 2nd favourite horror icon next to Michael Myers. Here's my ranking:
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - 9.5/10 A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors - 8.5/10 Wes Craven's New Nightmare - 8/10 Freddy vs. Jason - 7.5/10 A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master - 7/10 A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge - 6/10 A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) - 5.5/10 A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child - 5.5/10 Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare - 4.5/10

Original Dream Warriors Dream Master New Nightmare Part 2 Dream Child Freddy vs Jason Freddy's Dead Remake
This is my favorite horror franchise. They're all inventive and fun on some level...except for the remake, which is lifeless and gross.

The franchise has some weak links, but the remake is easily the worst of the bunch. As said above, all of the other ones have some level of imagination (because how could you not with that basic concept?) except for the remake which does absolutely nothing interesting whatsoever.

Original Dream Warriors Dream Master New Nightmare Part 2 Dream Child Freddy vs Jason Freddy's Dead Remake This is my favorite horror franchise. They're all inventive and fun on some level...except for the remake, which is lifeless and gross. They all have their moments for sure, even the weaker ones. I didn't hate the remake all that much honestly because it went back to being scary as opposed to something like Freddy's Dead, and because of that Freddy is more menacing, like in the original. Haley was also decent in the role. What I didn't like were the CGI and how it tried to make Freddy sympathetic when he's supposed to be this despicable monster. I can see why one would call it the worst Nightmare film.

Original New Nightmare Dream Warriors Dream Child or Freddy vs Jason Part 2 Freddy's Dead Remake Like I said to moviebuffbrad about my thoughts on the remake, it wasn't that bad IMO. It does have some serious flaws but it went back to the scary roots and I liked Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger. Where would you put Dream Master?

After catching the original film at the cinemas at the end of last year, I decided follow it up by re-watching the next six films. Of the popular horror franchises, it’s probably the one I watch the least. My feelings after getting through them stayed pretty much the same, except for “Freddy’s Dead” which I liked a little more and “New Nightmare” a little less.

I can see why one would call it the worst Nightmare film. I was really disappointed by Haley. He sounded like Rorschach after having a root canal. His backstory also didn't make any sense. He's not a killer, so why'd he have the glove? And he wasn't tried, so why'd the parents immediately jump to torching him? And I'll take video game one-liners over their failed attempts at being scary, which were mostly jump scares and pedo references. Another thing is that Nightmare movies usually have the most likable teens, and this is the blandest cast of the series, lead by Rooney "I don't want to be in this movie" Mara. The only things I liked were the concept of micronaps (which got wasted) and the line about the brain still functioning after death.

moviebuffbrad Yeah when I was watching I could hear a little bit of Rorschach in there too. I guess that the parents burned him because they were quite overprotective, and still are when the kids become teenagers which totally differentiates from the original film and its sequels with careless ones. Yeah but Freddy's Dead is the franchise killer because it basically made Freddy a flatout joke in that film. Anyways, I didn't really care for Mara's performance. She was bland and wooden, felt like Bella in the Twilight series. I have a feeling that this is not the same character based off of the one played by Heather Langenkamp. I mean they didn't even have the good sense to give her the same last name (Nancy Holbrook). Those were kinda cool. I also liked how Jesse died that way and his scream at the end lol.

Ranked and rated them as my favorites, from best to "worst":
01. A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) - 7,5/10 02. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - 7/10 03. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) - 6,5/10 04. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) - 5/10 05. Freddy vs. Jason (2003) - 5/10 06. A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989) - 4/10 07. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) - 4/10 08. New Nightmare (1994) - 4/10
Not seen Freddy's Nightmares (1988–1990) or the remake, but it have been a while since I last went through the original franchise but the first three films have pretty much remained the same, while the rest which follows have never really done much for me. Might try again this summer, as I usually like watching these kind of "summer" slashers in that period, not during the freezing cold winter time.

What made you like New Nightmare the least? Well, I have not seen it since 2011 (I think) but I still do remember that it did come with one of the most annoying little kids in a horror film, and one that ended up as a rather "important" reason as to why I probably did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped for but again I might change my mind of it when I eventually re-visit the franchise (hopefully this summer).

The kid was annoying for sure but I wouldn't say he's one of the worst child characters in horror. You should definitely give it another viewing this summer. It's very creative and is also very dark and scary.
