It's an interesting but of information, let's not ruin it by going around in pointless circles again.
I did actually think that it was just a reborn Groot. Wasn't expecting him to have actually died. I suppose that explains his more dimwitted intelligence.

Who actually thought he was the same Groot? He grabs a part of him and plants it to grow it. Groot is a sentient alien tree. If you plant a seed from a tree it's not the same tree. Him saying "I am Groot" is the same thing like how a pokemon says only its name.
