I'm starting to find the second season of American Crime Story to be a bit of a disappointment. The first 2 episodes were pretty good, but since then it has gone down hill. Like for one, I don't even know why it's called The Assassination of Gianni Versace. Versace is barely in it. They should have just called it The Untold Story of Andrew Cunanan. Additionally I feel like Darren Criss has done a good job crafting this character, but he's being over exposed. They are showing and focusing on him too much that his performance is becoming less impressive. Thirdly, I think they are making a mistake with their style of storytelling. I don't like how every episode they take the story a phase back. It just makes it seem like they are repeating information to us that we already know and not really touching on anything new.
Overall, I don't want to say it's bad because it has its pros like good actors and solid directing. But compared to what I think it could be its disappointing.

I agree with everything you said (except about it being a disappointment, since I didn't love season 1). I also thought about the title. I guess they thought that the title they chose would be more marketable.
