Because I didn't really like If on a Winter's Night, a Traveler, much as I wanted to.

I read Invisible Cities many years ago and liked it...but I honestly couldn’t tell you why. I just started The Baron In th Trees, and so far it’s fun and whimsical.

Sorry to hear you didn’t take to Calvino, @nxnwrocks—he’s one of my favorite authors—but Se una notte… is so typical of the man’s work that, in all honesty, I’m not sure that any of the others would be quite to your taste. Perhaps Il castello dei destini incrociati (The Castle of Crossed Destinies)? But then the Tarot, on the superficial level, and Calvino’s symbolism, on a deeper level, both intrigue me.

I don't think I approached it in the right frame of mind. I don't seem to do well with experimental texts.

Cosmicomics might be a good one to try. It is a collection of his early short stories. It feels more substantial to me than Invisible Cities (which has beautiful language and a very dreamlike quality and that I would also recommend) and more accessible than If on a winter’s night a traveler...
