One not so far mentioned, written and directed by Richard Brooks, is Deadline - U.S.A. in which Bogie plays a newspaper editor trying to expose a crime boss before his paper is sold under him. The insights into how a newspaper office works reminded me of a later movie The Paper (1994) directed by Ron Howard. Bogie has some great sardonic lines. And an unusual appearance because he was not credited, despite being one of the hottest properties in Hollywood: Always Together (1947). Bogie is one of a number of top MGM stars who are briefly on screen when the heroine visits the cinema and who help her with her problems. Maybe Woody Allen developed this idea for Purple Rose of Cairo (1985)? When was Bogie an MGM star?? Good point. Bogart was Warner Bros. and will always be identified with WB.

mikef6 "Always Together" (1947) was a Warner Bros production. This picture and Bogart's cameo does not get a mention in the exhaustive 1997 Bogart biography by Sperber and Lax.
IN: "BOGEY" The Films of HB by Clifford McCarthy (1965) on page 136 Mention of Always Together and cameos by Bogart, Jack Carson, Errol Flynn, Dennis Morgan, Janis Paige, Eleanor Parker and Alexis Smith. His sequence was a take-off on Stella Dallas.

More on Always Together :
Comment from Time magazine: "Best thing in the show: Humphrey Bogart appearing briefly in a movie the girl goes to -- as an outcast father, weeping against a rainy windowpane."

Thanks everyone for pointing out my silly error. Put it down to senile dementia. I have corrected my post.
Especial thanks to BAT for partly saving my face. I hope Sperber and Lax are reading his posts.
At least 50 years since I last saw that movie and I only remember it at all because of the Bogie cameo.

'When was Bogie an MGM star?"
Never, really -- but he did drift over to Metro in 1953 to make BATTLE CIRCUS with June Allyson.

Casablanca cannot be denied.
But The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Key Largo, Angels with Dirty Faces, The Maltese Falcon and Beat the Devil are close runners-up, while his finest performance may be In a Lonely Place.

london777Heck... even I know a temporary brain-fart when I see one. I once posted about Babe Ruth playing himself in the Babe Ruth Story and about the Big Z on the gate in Citizen Kane . I realized that they were wrong but the oops got caught before the edit. You think it's rough here oooopsie-wise ? ... shudda been around on the Olden-IMDb-Board !

mattgarthIn my defense ... I was a brand new member and the attempted Citizen Kane thread was a first attempt at threads. The CK one started out "Have you ever been to the Hearst Estate .. did you expect that there would be an Iron Gate with a Big Z on it ?" followed by a little tale and invite to add to the thread. BUT it wasn't to be ! I don't remember the details of the Baseball thread (thank heavens !)
