Happy 88th Birthday Taina Elg !!! Born on March 9, 1930 in Impilahti (some sources says Helsinki), Finland Thanks for everything... retired since 2006. Finland's Hollywood export in the 1950's. Trained in ballet since early age, she also appeared in a few uncredited roles in movies in Finland in the 1940s. She danced ballet both in London and Paris. An injury and a coincident meeting with producer Edwin H. Knopf paved the way to a seven year contract with MGM from the mid 1950's. She is the winner of two Golden Globes, for "Best Foreign Newcomer - Female" and for Les Girls 1957 (tied with Kay Kendall). When movie roles thinned out in the early 1960s she concentrated on the theatre, acting occasionally in movies and on television. A publicity shot for her debut in Hollywood in The Prodigal 1955. Les Girls 1957, with Mitzi Gaynor and Kay Kendall. Imitation General 1958, with Glenn Ford Lobby Card 1959 for the remake of The 39 Steps, with Kenneth More. Watusi 1959 with George Montgomery, a sort of un-official sequel to King Solomon's Mines. Whatever made her take the part of Nemisis in this movie is anybody's guess. I think she just had a good laugh about it. She had a successfull theatre career at this time of her life. Maybe she had some sparetime that day when they made this movie. She was nominated for a Tony award for the musical revival of Where's Charley? 1975. Taina Elg has acted in 30 movies and television productions.
