I keep thinking of a scene from an old comedy with a character or two in bed with a horse, who keeps pulling the blanket away from its bedmate(s). Anyone recall the scene? Got it! Son Of Paleface, at about 5:10 in the clip below:

OK, I must be losing it, then, guys; I haven’t seen Son of Paleface, so I have no idea where I got the memory. Oh, well…

Or perhaps Hope's writers stole it from something 10-20 years earlier. Like you need another unsolved mystery on your plate.

In one of Hope's books he mentions his reluctance to lie down next to a rather-larger-than-usual actor that could crush him by rolling over. Director Frank Tashlin told him, "Don't be scared Bob -- this is Trigger, the smartest horse in the movies!" Hope replied Tashlin better get it on the first take, b/c he wasn't doing a second one.

Would it be indelicate to mention Hope had a reputation for being quick to hop either in or out of the sheets?

Hitchcock did a cameo on Lifeboat by inserting his image as a before and after shot in a newspaper ad that one of the survivors had aboard the lifeboat.
